MARCO SPEAKS SPIDEY: Spider-Man ’94 #4 (2025) – Review

3 weeks ago 15

What better way to welcome the coming new year than with a comic inspired by one of the most beloved animated series of all time? Spider-Man ’94 continues to prove that it is possible to capture the magic of an older animated show and translate it into a modern comic — one that honors the past while still bringing something fresh to the table. This issue doesn’t just feel like a nostalgia trip; it feels alive, important, and emotionally rich, just like the series that inspired it all those years ago.

PROS

• Spider-Man and Kraven teaming up — and it WORKS

Seeing Spider-Man and Kraven not only team up, but genuinely get along, is one of the biggest highlights of this issue.
They work well together.
They understand each other.
And more importantly, they respect each other.

Both men have lost so much. Both have sacrificed deeply. That shared pain creates a bond that feels earned and real. The respect between them jumps off the page.

• Kraven’s expanded backstory — tragic and powerful

We get more insight into Kraven’s past, and it’s heartbreaking.
Even though Spider-Man and Black Cat once helped him save the love of his life, that happiness was short-lived. Kraven still lost her.

Now, his hunt has evolved.
His new prey isn’t glory…
It’s Morlun.

And that raises the stakes immensely.

• Kaine confronting MJ — fear, love, and humanity

The confrontation between Kaine and MJ is tense and emotional.
MJ puts on a brave face, but you can tell how terrified she really is.

What makes this scene special is how Kaine’s humanity shines through — the part of him that is still Peter Parker. Kaine is clearly in love with MJ, and he would do anything for her… even attempt what he believes might be impossible.

If it means saving Peter Parker / Spider-Man from Morlun — he will try.

• Kaine’s transformation — HUGE character growth

The final moments of the issue show a massive transformation for Kaine, and it’s genuinely exciting.
You can feel that his journey is far from over, and I can’t wait to see how he continues to evolve — however long that road may be.

• Morlun as a primal, terrifying force

Morlun is portrayed brilliantly here.
He isn’t just evil for the sake of evil — he believes he’s doing something good for the world… but his methods are twisted, cruel, and fueled by selfish desire.

Watching him clash with Spider-Man and Kraven is epic — and when Kaine enters the fight, it becomes something truly special.

• Perfect animated-series vibes

This comic absolutely nails the feel of the original animated series:

  • The action
  • The colors
  • The dialogue
  • The overall tone

It feels like watching lost episodes brought to life on the page.

• Morlun established as the ultimate threat

This series does an incredible job making Morlun feel like the biggest, baddest villain Spider-Man has ever faced. Every encounter feels dangerous, desperate, and monumental.

• Pacing that never lets up

Whether it’s high emotion or high action, the pace never drags.
The story flows effortlessly from heartfelt moments to explosive battles.

CONS

• None. Absolutely none.

I genuinely can’t find anything to criticize here.
This is a perfect issue.

FINAL GRADE: A+

Conclusion: Spider-Man ’94 #4 is an amazing, spectacular, and sensational way to ring in the new year. It celebrates Spider-Man’s animated legacy while delivering powerful character moments, epic action, and meaningful growth for its cast.

As the year comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to look back and decide which comics you want to start or catch up on — and in my humble opinion, this series absolutely belongs on that list.

At the end of the day, this issue reminds me why Spider-Man has endured for decades across every medium imaginable. Whether it’s animation, comics, or adaptations like this, the heart of the character always shines through — resilience, sacrifice, and the refusal to give up even when the odds feel impossible. Spider-Man ’94 understands that balance perfectly. It respects where Spider-Man came from while pushing the story forward in meaningful ways. Issues like this don’t just entertain; they reconnect longtime fans with why they fell in love with Spider-Man in the first place, while also welcoming new readers with open arms.
