Marvel announces GODZILLA DESTROYS THE MARVEL UNIVERSE

Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe sees the legendary kaiju set his sights on a larger target than ever before in this brand new crossover between Marvel Comics and Toho International. After facing the Fantastic Four, the X-Men, the Avengers and more in a series of one-shots this year, the King of the Monsters is set to take on seemingly every Marvel icon in one single major crossover event series when Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe launches July 16.

Written by Gerry Duggan, known for acclaimed series such as Falling In Love On The Path To Hell, with art by the fantastic Javier Garrón, known for his work on series such as Uncanny X-Men, Godzilla Destroys the Marvel Universe is a five-issue event that promises to combine the forces of not only Marvel’s heroes – but also its villains – to bring an end to Godzilla’s rampage. The collaboration is reportedly thanks to an exciting partnership between Marvel Comics and Toho International, the Japanese studio’s U.S.-based subsidiary that has brought global sensation Godzilla to the world in films, televsion and comics. Marvel teases some of the events to come in the series:

Packed with shocking moments like a faceoff between the ageless Kaiju and an ancient Celestial, a horrifying symbiote bonding to the King of the Monsters, and a ground-shaking battle between the Hulk and Godzilla, it’s an explosive saga that will go down in pop culture history!

Meanwhile, writer Gerry Duggan had this to say about writing a Godzilla comic:

Godzilla was as important to me as Marvel Comics growing up. My father enjoyed watching baseball on TV, and I would root for rain outs so the NYC stations would run a Godzilla movie. When I discovered that Godzilla had appeared in the Marvel Universe, I obsessively collected every issue. I can’t believe how lucky I am to be contributing to the tradition of Godzilla rampaging in the Marvel Universe.

Finally, artist Javier Garrón had this to say about working on the series:

It is—excuse the pun—a monstrous opportunity to team up again with Gerry, not only one of the best writers in comics but the only person who could do justice to this story with his bold, wild, extremely funny and epic scripting. Letting none other than the King of the Monsters loose in the Marvel Universe means a lot to me and it’s all a creator could ask for in a comic!
