All the world is abuzz thanks to the Avengers: Doomsday. The latest multiverse blockbuster is set to deliver in historic fashion for the Marvel Cinematic when it arrives in theaters in December, and there's even recent breaking news that the re-release of Avengers: Endgame will feature changes to the storyline so that it can serve as the bridge to Avengers: Doomsday, but that's not all Marvel has going on with Earth's Mightiest Heroes in 2026.
Marvel Studios isn't the only one having fun this year, as Marvel Comics ramps things up in a major way for their branch of the tree, and they're using the jaw-dropping events of Avengers: Disassembled to pave the way for what comes next: a mind-blowing experience in Avengers: Armaggedon #1 — written by Chip Zdarsky with art by some of the best in the industry.

Marvel Is Pushing the Avengers To The Limit, And Beyond
Per Marvel's solicitation: "AVENGERS: ARMAGEDDON, a new event series by acclaimed writer Chip Zdarsky and rising star artists Delio Diaz and Frank Alpizar, is set to transform Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in a way not seen since Avengers: Disassembled. Spinning out Zdarsky’s current run of Captain America as well as One World Under Doom, Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon and more, the long-awaited saga sees some of Marvel’s greatest icons assemble against Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross, a.k.a. the Red Hulk, whose takeover of Latveria puts the entire world in jeopardy.
It continued: "When the dust settles on the cataclysmic showdown, a new era of Avengers begins, complete with a bold new lineup that includes an all-new hero with unrivaled power."
A first-look/preview has now been released by Marvel to anxious fans and, as you can see in the panels above, Avengers: Armageddon #1 will likely live up to its name, and then some, and that's a bet Zdarsky is more than willing to place when it hits local comic shops in June 2026.
Marvel's Avengers: Armaggedon Will Rival Avengers: Doomsday
"I mean, it’s a lot of heroes!" Zdarsky told Marvel.com. "I always love writing Namor, especially when he’s indignant. But it’s been a treat to write Carol more as I haven’t had much of a chance over the years. Also, I loved him before, but after writing Wolverine: Weapons of Armageddon, I’m addicted to Logan’s voice."
As for why it's specifically the Red Hulk as the lead antagonist, well, Zdarsky offered up a reasonable answer.
"I mean, it’s a Hulk with the tactical ability of a U.S. General and some deep-seated trauma from imprisonment in a foreign country. There’s a lot to play with there, and right now, General Ross has some very specific ideas of what the world should be. How do you stop a guy with that level of power and forethought?"
He then gave one final tease: "It’s going to be pretty fractured, but when things are looking dark, someone will always step up. But what they’ll face will be wildly unexpected. Sorry, that’s vague, I know. But man, oh man, I’m pretty excited for people to see where we’re going!
Marvel will also release a special prelude to Avengers: Armageddon #1 with Armageddon/X-Men #1 CGD 2026, available on May 2, Comics Giveaway Day, to fully set the tone for what they're building with their next cataclysmic saga — the comic version that comes before the next cataclysmic live-action one a few months down the road in Avengers: Doomsday.
