The following contains major spoilers for One World Under Doom #9, on sale November 19 from Marvel Comics.
One of the greatest heroes in Marvel Comics' history is dead, and Doctor Doom will never be the same because of it.
A preview of One World Under Doom #9 (by Ryan North, R.B. Silva, David Curiel, and VC's Travis Lanham) from Marvel Comics finds Doctor Doom looking back over the various moments from his time with his goddaughter, Valeria Richards, that he holds closest to his heart. From meeting Valeria for the very first time to watching her grow into a hero in her own right, brimming with endless hope and potential, there is nothing about his time with Valeria that Doom doesn't cherish. This makes it all the more tragic that Doom himself was unwittingly responsible for her untimely demise, which is quickly proving to be the one wound from which he will never recover.

The story of Valeria Richards is one of the most complex and devastating in the history of Marvel Comics. Conceived within the bounds of the Negative Zone, the unborn Valeria was seemingly stillborn due to the exposure to various radiations she suffered in utero. In a shocking turn, the young Franklin Richards unconsciously saved Valeria's life by transporting her to another world where she was raised by a different Sue Storm and a decidedly heroic Doctor Doom.
After nearly two decades, the teenage Valeria was reverted to an unborn child nestled within the primary Sue Storm's womb, all a result of reality being reset through the use of the Ultimate Nullifier. In the years since, Valeria has been reborn and grown into a similar sort of hero as she once was. More importantly, Valeria has retained her connection to Doctor Doom, who, despite no longer being her father, is still very much someone she loves and trusts like no one else in the Marvel Universe possibly could.

One World Under Doom has seen Doctor Doom rise from the supervillain fans know best to attain the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme and, ultimately, lay claim to the entire world as the one supreme leader of Earth. While a surprising number of people have acquiesced to Doom's demands and effectively accepted him as their lord, others have fought tirelessly against his global regime. In the case of Valeria, she traveled back to the battlefield where Doom cemented his rule, which he was attempting to establish as an immutable and unchanging moment in time, to ensure no one could ever prevent his regime from taking form as it has now.
