Marvel's Ultimate Universe will be coming to a close, and it will all kick off with the explosive new series Ultimate Endgame.

Marvel has finally unveiled new details and cover art about one of its most exciting universes' final chapters. Per Marvel's press release, Ultimate Endgame #1, the first in a five-issue series from Deniz Camp, Jonas Scharf and Terry Dodson, will hit comic book shops on Dec. 31. It will bring all the Ultimate series together for a long-awaited showdown with The Maker, the twisted and villainous Reed Richards who created the universe. Marvel has unveiled an impressive 22 pieces of cover art to celebrate the momentous occasion, as well as new details about what the series will entail.

The release of Ultimate Endgame #1 will bring with it 'True Believers Blind Bags', Marvel's first-ever Blind Bag program that will give fans a chance to purchase the issue in special sealed bags containing one of the issue's variant covers — including rare ones exclusive to the Blind Bags, with it recently being revealed that they will include hand-drawn one-of-a-kind sketch covers.

The solicit for Ultimate Endgame #1 teases that two years have passed in the Ultimate Universe, but inside the City, the Maker has had thousands of years to prepare for his return. With the barrier around the City finally gone, heroes from all over the Ultimate Universe are mobilizing to defeat the Maker before it's too late.

Marvel's Ultimate Endgame Signals the End of the Ultimate Universe

At New York Comic Con 205, Marvel announced the Ultimate Universe would be concluding next year with the final issues of Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men, Ultimates and Ultimate Wolverine. All the series will be centered around the events of Ultimate Endgame, making the new series essential for fans to get the full picture.

Marvel has teased that the Ultimate Universe was an ambitious storytelling venture that exceeded their expectations, and with Endgame in sight, this legendary saga is set to end on a definitive high note. As The Maker's story wraps up, Marvel promises fans a "complete, innovative saga that can be enjoyed by fans, beginning, middle and end, for generations to come."

The Ultimate Universe was launched by Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch in Ultimate Invasion, and while it takes place outside of Marvel's main continuity, it's set to leave a lasting impact. It's been revealed that "Origin Boxes", the devices the Maker used to rob Marvel's iconic heroes of their powers, will be heading to Earth-616 with Miles Morales when Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion #5 goes on sale later this month — setting the stage for new heroes and storylines to pop up in the new year.
