Marvel Comics has teased the death of the God of Thunder in the upcoming May issue of Al Ewing and Jan Bazaldua's Immortal Thor.
According to the publisher, "EVEN AN IMMORTAL CAN DIE! The God of Thunder faces a deadly new trial starting this May in Al Ewing and Jan Bazaldua's IMMORTAL THOR!" If Thor does indeed perish in Immortal Thor #23, it would not come as a complete surprise, given Loki's foreshadowing of a dark fate awaiting the son of Odin. The God of Mischief in his incarnation as Skald, The Teller of Tales, is all but certain of Thor's end, which is likely to come at the hands of the dreaded Utgard-Gods.
Canada's premier superhero team is back in action, and they might just be all the help the X-Men need to take down a new alien menace.

The Utgard-Gods are immensely powerful entities comprised of Earth's Elder Gods who escaped the Demogorge's culling of their kind thousands of years ago. Among them are the Utgard-Thor, also known as Toranos, and the Utgard-Loki, whose true name has yet to be revealed to anyone other than himself. Both debuted in the first issue of Immortal Thor by Ewing, Jonathan Hickman, and Martin Coccolo, which saw Toranos lay siege to New York City, leading to an epic showdown with Thor. With the recent return of Toranos and even more Utgard-Gods, including Nirgl, Mejed, and Kemur, still to arrive, the future seems perilous for The God of Thunder.
The Road to Immortal Thor's Potential Demise
Before fans learn Thor's fate in the May issue, the titular hero must first go up against Skurge in March's Immortal Thor #21. Marvel's description reads, "THE EXECUTIONER RETURNS! AND THANOS AWAITS… The Odinson stood at a gate in a dark wood. In front of the gate stood Skurge the Executioner, bloodaxe in hand, waiting for the final battle between them. And if Thor won the combat, then behind that same gate stood Utgardhall, and the final death that awaited him - the death he fought for. This is the story of the IMMORTAL THOR...and the door into darkness."
The Ghost Riders of the Marvel Universe have a horrifying new nemesis, and she is closer to two of them than anyone could have possibly imagined.
In April's Immortal Thor #22, "Thor had made his way to Utgard - and there waited the Utgard-Loki, who the Odinson had never yet defeated. And with the Elder Trickster stood his pantheon...beginning with NRGL, Lord of Murder-in-Darkness. He who was his own place of power. This is the story of the IMMORTAL THOR...and the Unforgiving City."
Immortal Thor #23 will arrive in comic book shops in May 2025.
