The next Marvel epic that promises to shake the universe to its core has just been announced, and it's going to bring ARMAGEDDON!

Marvel revealed that the countdown has begun for a mysterious new event from superstar creator Chip Zdarsky, who has been making his mark with comic characters like Spider-Man and Daredevil before he took on the Sentinel of Liberty. It's his current run on Captain America, as well as the events currently unfolding in the Ultimate Universe, that will lead to Marvel's next event.

Marvel teased the event with a few small details and the cryptic image that you can see below:

The announcement revealed that recent developments in Ultimate Spider-Man: Incursion will play a huge role in the upcoming event. After traveling to The Maker's new Ultimate Universe to rescue his young sister Billie, Miles returned to Earth-616 with a collection of Origin Boxes that promise to reshape the Marvel universe as we know it.

Fans of the current Ultimate Universe know that the original Ultimate Reed Richards, now the villain known as The Maker, traveled to Earth-1610 and meddled in its history by taking the potential superheroes off the board. Everything that made those heroes was contained within what became known as Origin Boxes, which were then used by the Ultimates to repower heroes so they could fight back against The Maker and save their world.

It's not entirely clear which Origin Boxes Miles came back with or whose powers are contained inside, though the announcement of the new event doesn't exactly bode well. The image also features the Avengers logo and includes "Assembled" in the tagline, teasing that this event will impact Earth's Mightiest Heroes "...in a way not seen since Avengers: Disassembled, the event that redefined the team for the 21st century."

Who Is Silhoutetted On The Armageddon Teaser?

The only artwork included with the announcement is from event mastermind Chip Zdarsky and shows the silhouette of a caped hero holding an open Origin Box.

"Witness the Origin of the End" and the release date fill the page, all of which offer surprisingly little information. Unlike the Distinguished Competition, the Marvel Universe isn't exactly known for its abundance of caped heroes. Of course, one particular cape-wearing hero has gained some newfound MCU fame after some time away in the comics.

Thunderbolts* introduced Bob/The Sentry to the live-action universe, albeit with a slightly different origin. However, his incredible powers were on full display as he took on the newly formed team all by himself. The original Sentry in the comics has died a few times and came back in different forms, most recently with his power being split into a couple of different beings.

Marvel's ARMAGEDDON event could feature something similar, with the powers from the as-yet-unseen Ultimate Sentry gifted to someone who could bring about the end of the Marvel Universe. Fans will have to stay tuned to Chip Zdarsky and Valerio Schiti's Captain America run for more details while they wait for the start of Marvel's next epic event.
