“Nightmare’s Evolution – Tigra the Feline Fury”

What happened to Doctor Joanne Tumolo? Whispers begin to spread underneath the port city of New Orleans, while thousands of Mardi Gras goers fill the streets above. Murder has come to the hidden world of the cat-people and Tigra wants answers.

Greer Grant Nelson, the once human crimefighter known as the Cat, has been saved from a lethal dose of Hydra radiation thanks to the good doctor. Now reborn as a weretiger, Tigra scours the city looking for Dr. Tumolo’s killer. But the suspect is not quite what she imagined them to be. The perpetrator comes from an ancient evolutionary line of cat-people much older and wiser than any of her friends.

Why are local scientists being attacked for their genetic modification research? What is the origin of de-evolutionary technology being used to build an army from the past? Can Tigra convince the cat-people living in the New Orleans labyrinth to help save the city? Collect the series to find out!

Review

The history of Tigra is just as robust as the cat-people she communes with. Marvel Premiere #42 continues the story left open in The Cat #01-04 (1972-1973) and Giant-Size Creatures #01 (1974). Writer Ed Hannigan does a wonderful job stitching together the various events that make Greer Grant Nelson the weretiger she is today.

My favorite part of this comic book is the cover art by Dave Cockrum and interior by Mike Vosburg. Both had well-deserved careers in the industry. If you’re a fan of Savage She-Hulk, G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, or X-Men you will definitely recognize the art style of both men. I give this origins story recap four out of five stars.
