Spider-Man and Magic: The Gathering Have Crossed Over Before
Image via CBRMarvel's Spider-Man Magic: The Gathering set was released on Sep. 26, 2025 to the delight and chagrin of fans of both properties alike. Marvel's Spider-Man marked the second Standard-legal Universes Beyond set since Final Fantasy, the latter of which was by far the hottest Magic: The Gathering set of the year, if not all time, generating more than $200 million in revenue within 24 hours of its release.
Unfortunately, Marvel's Spider-Man set wasn't nearly as successful as Final Fantasy was before it. Apart from being widely lambasted by Magic: The Gathering players as a generally underpowered, lackluster experience, Marvel's Spider-Man suffered on digital platforms, being unavailable for redemption on Magic: The Gathering Online and being replaced by Through the Omenpaths on MTG Arena.
Despite the underwhelming response that Marvel's Spider-Man received, Magic: The Gathering is staring down a whole host of new Universes Beyond releases in 2026. As a matter of fact, this weekend is seeing thousands of game stores across the world celebrate the release of Magic: The Gathering — Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles via pre-release events and a wide variety of tournaments.
Marvel's Magic: The Gathering variants will be available for purchase in May 2026.
