The clever way that the hit new Marvel Knights: The World to Come miniseries has been written, which reunites two of the original creators of Marvel's Marvel Knights line, Joe Quesada and Christopher Priest (and longtime Quesada collaborator, colorist Richard Isanove), is that it takes place far into the future, when things have really gotten bad, and shows what happens when T'Challa passes away.

Throughout the series, we have learned WHY that is so important, and it is because T'Challa had seceded his throne to his adopted White son, Ketema, but so long as T'Challa was alive, his presence always prevented Ketema from uniting the Wakandan people. Once T'Challa is out of the way, though, things are going to change dramatically.

In this CBR exclusive preview of next week's Marvel Knights: The World to Come #5, we see some of those chain reactions, as well as see the shocking revelation as to why the world's superheroes have not been able to stand up against Ketema's fascist rule in Wakanda.

In the preview pages, we start five years before the death of T'Challa, where the king keeps himself in shape by fighting against a new group of warriors known as The Hand of God. Everett Ross refers to them as basically "What if the Pope ran Squid Game?" They test T'Challa, and keep him spry, even though he is well past his prime (and, apparently, five years before his death).

We then cut to Ross being brought into the action upon T'Challa's death, as Ketema will now be FULLY the king of Wakanda. As the story notes, so long as T'Challa was alive, there was sort of a "Two Popes" situation going on, where there really were two heads of state. With T'Challa dead, nothing can stand in Ketema's way.

We see T'Challa confer with an older Matthew Murdock, who notes that T'Challa's multiple organ transplants to keep himself alive (to prevent Ketema from being the sole leader of Wakanda) were not going to last long. Matt also scolded T'Challa for allowing his son to seemingly ruin Wakanda unopposed.

Meanwhile, though, in one of the most shocking revelations of the series, we see that while Ketema waited for T'Challa to die, he first took care of other possible threats to his reign by actually getting the world's superheroes together, heroes like Spider-Man, Captain America, Ms. Marvel and more (including a grown-up Moon Girl) and KILLING THEM ALL!

With such a shocking revelation included in just the preview, it makes you wonder what else Marvel Knights: The World to Come #5 wiill reveal! You can find out by buying a copy next week!
