The City of Metropolis will proudly commemorate the 54th anniversary of its official designation as the "Home of Superman" on Wednesday, January 21st at 10:00AM. Community members, local leaders, fans, and visitors will gather at the iconic Superman Statue for a ceremonial reading of the historic proclamation by Mayor Gregg Jeffords, marking the anniversary of the 1972 resolution that formally recognized Metropolis as the official hometown of the Man of Steel.

The anniversary celebration highlights more than five decades of community pride and cultural significance tied to the Superman legacy, which continues to draw international attention and tourism to Metropolis. The city's embrace of Superman has helped foster local attractions such as the Super Museum, showcase its 15-foot Superman statue, and fuel annual events that honor the hero's impact on popular culture.

In honor of the anniversary, the Metropolis Chamber of Commerce has partnered with local businesses and organizations to offer a range of celebratory activities and community benefits, designed to engage both residents and visitors including complimentary admission to the Super Museum for Metropolis residents, exclusive discounts of 25% at participating local businesses, and refreshments & community fellowship hosted by the Chamber.

Organizers hope that this anniversary event will become an enduring Metropolis tradition, one that both honors the city's unique place in superhero lore and celebrates the ongoing joy that Superman brings to fans around the world.
