For this month’s one-and-done rewrite of Marvel History, we learn that the version of Hank Pym that slept with Tigra was a skrull.
As much as it’s a little frustrating that Secret Invasion leaves me wondering who was a skrull when and what actual relationships existed in the 616, it’s also fun to go down memory lane.

For issue #18, which takes place before the full invasion began, Nick Fury’s new underground commando unit kidnaps a Maria Hill LMD. Fury says it’s a training mission, but it’s a little jarring that would spend time doing something like this while he knew a major skrull invasion was ramping up. Surely there was a better us of this team’s time.

Issue #19 features the skrull Mar-Vell death in a space battle against the invading skrull armada.

Bendis parallels it to the Death of Captain Marvel graphic novel, which was probably the best “death of a hero” comic of all time, but our ability to care about this new, skrull Mar-Vell is limited because he’s only been around a little while. I personally am just not invested in him.

Finally, issue #20 is basically an “If you’re just joining us” issue that summarizes the history leading up to Secret Invasion and the event’s conclusion. Hank has to learn that his ex-wife died during the Invasion.

It ends with Wasp’s funeral and then leads into the next phase of Avengers books…

This issue was published after Secret Invasion #8 and was the final issue published with the “Secret Invasion” banner.
