Mighty Avengers #25-26 (2009)

1 week ago 6

After a brief flashback of Bill Foster inventing a “dimensional wave inducer” that allows someone to travel to any dimension at at point in time we move to the present, where Jocasta has severed the link to Avengers’ interdimensional headquaters in order to prevent Norman Osborn from getting it.  Within two days, they’ll be stranded—cut off from Earth 616 reality forever.

Hank Pym asks Reed Richards for Foster’s old tech, which was left to Ben Grimm after Foster died, but Reed doesn’t trust Hank.

Reed seems to be the ONLY person in the Marvel Universe who remembers all the times that Hank did something truly horrible that endangered lives.  Good for him.

But of course Hank won’t take no for an answer, and decides that his Mighty Avengers team will invade the Baxter Building and take what they need to stabilize their headquarters.

Meanwhile, Quicksilver and U.S. Agent have a side mission with a new character named Ban-Luck who works for an international organization that investigates ghosts.

G.R.A.M.P.A.: The Global Reaction Agency for Mysterious Paranormal Activity.  And apparently Quicksilver and U.S. Agent work for it, too.

They learn that the Inhumans are contemplating an alliance with the Chinese Government, and Pietro and John Walker want to stop it from happening.

And in a third story, Thing has a fight with Red Hulk.  Only it’s Hercules wearing an image inducer.

At the same time Vision, disguised as Red Ghost, takes on Human Torch.  It’s not clear why they both choose “red” disguises.

While much of the team is distracted, the rest of the team invades the Baxter Building and encounters a variety of interesting defenses.  Part of the plan to overcome them is for Amadeus Cho to use ants, and we’re reminded that Cassie’s dad was the second Ant-Man.

Of course in the end Reed helps the M.A. team and their base is saved.  Pym convinces him by showing Reed something that we, the readers, don’t get to see.  Yet.  Next issue, we’ll learn that he’s tethered the Might Avengers’ base to Asgard.

These are a fun couple of issues, but they end rather abruptly, which is not satisfying.
