Monster-Size Hulk (2008)

This was a fun little one-shot with four short stories with “monster” themes that take place in Europe.

First, Jeff Parker and Gabriel Hardman give us Bruce Banner drugged and kidnapped to help revive the Frankenstein monster.  Doctor Frankenstein’s great-granddaughter Victoria is the kidnapper and of course she’s a hottie.  She straps Banner into a machine designed to transfer his bio-energy to the monster.  This makes him mad and he changes during the process, busts out, and attacks her–but the monster is alive.

And they have a nice fight until they are interrupted by the local militia and team-up to take them on.

Holy crap is Hardman a terrific artist.

Next, Steve Niles (known for the horror book “30 Days of Night”) and Lucio Parrillo offer Hulk vs Werewolf by Night in Italy.  Another solid story.  It’s followed by Paul Tobin/Dave Williams bringing back the Golden Age Kirby monster Goom.

Finally, there’s a Dracula text piece by Peter David with more Hardman illustrations.  I’ve never been a fan of short stories in my comics, but it does complete the theme here–all the old comics used to be forced to include longer text pieces in order to justify that they weren’t just pulpy crap that needed to be censored.
