Mr. Terrific Series Announced Ahead of DCU Debut

DC Comics will explore the origins of Mr. Terrific in an all-new limited series. The new story promises to "revisit and expand" the iconic character's origins.

Mr. Terrific: Year One will see DC reinvigorate the origin story of one of its smartest and most resourceful superheroes ahead of his debut in James Gunn's new DCU. The new six-issue limited series marks the return of Al Letson, Peabody Award-winning journalist to DC. Award-winning artist Valentine De Landro (Black Manta, DC Power: A Celebration) will provide art for the series alongside Edwin Galmon (Cyborg), who will provide present-day sequences crucial to the story.

Marvel Comics unveils a preview for One World Under Doom #2, which teases Doctor Doom's confrontation with the Fantastic Four.

"A genius-level inventor and Olympic champion, Michael Holt’s life was destined for greatness," DC's solicit for Mr. Terrific: Year One reads. "But that life came to a screeching halt when his wife, Paula, and unborn son were killed in a car accident. The Holts once shared ambitious dreams of using their technology to help others, but after the tragedy, Michael retreats from society, selling Holt Industries to mysterious and craven tech billionaire Athena Prescott. Surrendering his dream sets off an explosive chain of events, taking the exceptionally intelligent Holt from the depths of despair to the heights of heroism as Mr. Terrific."

In addition to the synopsis for the story, DC also revealed a first look at Mr. Terrific in the new comics with main cover art by De Landro and three variant covers by Mitch Gerads, Evan "Doc" Shaner, and Denys Cowan. Mr. Terrific: Year One #1 goes on sale May 28.

New Mr. Terrific Series Explores Character's Super Hero Origins

The character of Michael Holt was originally created by John Ostrander and Tom Mandrake, first appearing in Spectre #54 in June 1997. Speaking in DC's press release for Mr. Terrific's new story, series author Al Letson teased how he and artist Valentine De Landro will 'dive deep' into their exploration of the character. “Valentine and I are diving deep and telling the origin story of who Mr. Terrific is as a man, and as a super hero," Letson said. "I’ve loved Valentine’s work for years, and working on this series has been a dream. I can’t wait for fans to see what we’re cooking up."
