Murder Drones, Oni Press’s upcoming comics adaptation of the fan-favorite animated series, raised nearly $1.7 million in Kickstarter revenue, making it one of the top five highest-earning comics in the history of the crowdfunding platform.

At $1,694,542, Murder Drones takes the #4 spot in the all-time highest-earning comic book campaigns on Kickstarter. The only things ahead of it are Skybound’s Transformers and G.I. Joe compendiums ($4.65 million and $3.79 million, respectively) and the Good Omens graphic novel from the Terry Pratchett Estate (£2,419,973). The initial $5,000 funding goal for Murder Drones was reached in the first five minutes of the campaign.

The graphic novel, from writer Wyatt Kennedy and illustrator Jo Mi-Gyeong, is the most successful campaign so far from Oni Press, who previously released Kickstarter-funded comics based on Rick and Morty and Cult of the Lamb.

“I think for those who love physical media, actually owning a story they love that’s told with a lot of care and respect for the source material will mean a lot,” Kennedy told The Beat in September. “I think it’s also a great avenue that can open the door for more stories and explorations of this universe in the future.”

The graphic novel will weigh in at 136 pages, and will be available for sale in the direct market in 2026. In addition to a few different formats for the book, Murder Drones offered backers a chance to get extras like jackets, pins, and even an official VHS release for the show. Murder Drones will ship graphic novels in about a year, but before then, will start releasing single issues into comic shops in February.

Murder Drones hails from Glitch Productions, the studio behind the mega-hit The Amazing Digital Circus. Both series were independently funded and produced, but generated enough fan support that Murder Drones now streams on Prime Video and The Amazing Digital Circus runs on Netflix after its initial YouTube uploads.

Here’s how Oni describes Murder Drones: “In the far future, a natural disaster has flash-frozen humanity’s remote mining exoplanet, Copper 9. Only now, the ‘worker drones’ — built by humanity and eventually outlived by them—have to rebuild society from the frozen ashes…an endeavor complicated by the appearance of ‘disassembly drones,’ vampiric robot counterparts hell-bent on wiping mechanical life from the planet and the unexpected emergence of an unsettling entity known as the ‘Absolute Solver.'”

Murder Drones ran for eight episodes beginning in 2021, and wrapping up in 2024. The show moved to Prime Video in May 2025.
