Netflix & AMC’s Truce Will Bring Tarantino’s Cliff Booth to Cinemas

Netflix and AMC Theatres appear to have reached an agreement that could mark a turning point in the long-running divide between streaming platforms and traditional movie theaters. After years of disagreement, the two companies are reportedly partnering to bring select Netflix films to the big screen, signaling a shift in how audiences may experience major releases.

Variety reports that several Netflix titles will receive theatrical runs at AMC locations, including special showings such as the Stranger Things series finale and Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Narnia film in IMAX. The outlet also notes that director David Fincher’s new movie The Adventures of Cliff Booth will receive a wider theatrical release than most past Netflix originals. The film continues the story introduced in Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood, which earned strong box office results and won multiple Academy Awards, including one for Brad Pitt’s performance.

Fincher’s film is expected to have a full release schedule in theaters, reflecting the growing interest among filmmakers in seeing their work shown on the big screen. Once Upon a Time… In Hollywood made about $377 million worldwide on a $96 million budget, so expectations for the new film are significant. Netflix’s decision to debut more of its productions in theaters also appears to align with its strategy to compete more seriously in awards season, where theatrical exposure remains a key factor.

However, some upcoming Netflix titles will not be part of this wider release effort. Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery will reportedly open in a limited number of theaters to qualify for awards but not in a broad rollout. Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is facing a similar limited release, drawing some criticism from those hoping to see his adaptation reach a broader audience.

The new cooperation between AMC and Netflix comes as both sides look for ways to strengthen their positions in a changing entertainment market. Theaters have faced declining attendance in recent years, while streaming platforms are seeking new ways to promote their biggest projects. AMC plans to test the partnership soon with the re-release of K-Pop Demon Hunters.

If the collaboration proves successful, audiences could see more Netflix original films playing in local theaters before they hit streaming. The arrangement may also give traditional moviegoing a modest resurgence at a time when many viewers are returning to in-person entertainment. The Adventures of Cliff Booth, expected to premiere in summer 2026, will serve as one of the first major tests of how this new partnership performs.
