Netflix's Masters of the Universe Confirmed To Return After Live-Action Movie Release

Things are falling into place for it to be a hot summer for fans of He-Man, but with this recent round of news, expect some fun in winter as well. Masters of the Universe will arrive on June 5, the rebooted franchise looking to bring He-Man, Skeletor and all of their friends and foes to the big screen for Amazon MGM,

To celebrate the return of Prince Adam Glenn, Dark Horse Comics and Mattel are giving fans a chance to get their hands on something special later this year. In 2021, Netflix released Masters of the Universe: Revelation, an animated two-part series that featured 10 total episodes, and then came Masters of the Universe: Revolution in 2024, serving as the third and final installment.

Two years later, He-Man fans can get their hands on a commemorative 264-page hardcover edition, and it's also written by the showrunners of the original Masters of the Universe: Revelation — ensuring the aura and continuity remains intact.

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Get Animated Again

Per the official solicitation: "Discover the unseen adventures of Prince Adam’s first year as He-Man with Masters of the Universe: Forge of Destiny. In Masters of the Universe: Revelation, He-Man embarks on an epic journey and faces off against his longtime foes Skeletor and Evil Lyn.

It continued: "Journey to the earliest days of one of the universe’s most consequential and fraught team-ups—Skeletor and Hordak—with Masters of the Universe: Revolution. And in Masters of the Universe: Andra, Andra must delve into her past, use her technical know-how, and find her own power if she hopes to save Eternia."

There have been calls for Netflix to have another go at He-Man and the Masters of the Universe franchise, but it's Amazon MGM getting the nod in the live-action reboot that looks to level up in a major way over Dolph Lundgren's wonderfully cheesy cult classic of yesteryear.

What's the Latest on Amazon's Masters of the Universe?

As Netflix gets a commemorative hardcopy celebrating the success of its animated reboot, Amazon MGM is hoping for far more success with the live-action iteration that will not be relegated to debuting on a streaming platform.

Masters of the Universe (2026) will get the full treatment, heading directly to theaters in June, and the first two trailers have drawn a mix of praise and criticism, for varying reasons. Nicholas Galitzine has an uphill battle to climb against those who feel he's not as muscular as was peak Lundgren, while others disagree. Jared Leto's Skeletor has been criticized for the decision to ditch the playfully nasal, master of insult version of the villain to make way for a darker, more serious tone, though the design is excellent, by most accounts.

The supporting cast includes Sir Idris Elba as Man at Arms, Allison Brie as Evil-Lyn, Morena Baccarin as Sorceress and Camila Mendas as Teela, and they should help Galitzine pull in plenty of sales this summer, that is assuming the story can be told well. Only weeks away from the worldwide debut, audiences are primed to see if Galatzine truly does have the power.
