Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder gives fans a major update on the status of DC Comics' Absolute Poison Ivy.

Per Bleeding Cool, the upcoming debut of the Absolute Poison Ivy has been confirmed by Absolute Batman writer Scott Snyder. Not only will the Absolute version of the iconic Gotham City mainstay be making her way into the pages of DC Comics with the release of Absolute Batman #17 next year, but her introduction will take place right alongside what Snyder promises will be a major surprise for readers.

Regarding the future of the series as a whole, Snyder noted that he and artist Nick Dragotta "know the big final chapter of it," and have mapped the series out to somewhere between 35 and 40 issues. Snyder also touched on the legacy of the Absolute Universe, stating, "I hope it reminds people that these characters are meant to be renewed. They're meant to be burned down and put together. Batman weaponizes his trauma to make the world better, that's how he wins."

First seen in the opening story from 1966's Batman #181, "Beware of -- Poison Ivy!" by Robert Kanigher and Sheldon Moldoff, the villainous Poison Ivy was once simply known as Pamela Isley. A young botanist with an open heart and mind, Pamela became the unfortunate victim of Professor Jason Woodrue, better known as the Floronic Man, who she worked under before being transformed into the superpowered Poison Ivy. In the years since, Poison Ivy has gone from an abject villain to an unlikely and consistently controversial hero in her own right.

Who Else Can Fans Expect To See In DC's Absolute Universe?

Poison Ivy will be just the latest in a long line of classic DC supervillains to receive the Absolute treatment in the pages of Absolute Batman. Currently, fans are eagerly awaiting the release of Absolute Batman #15, which will see the Absolute Joker reintroduced in a monstrous form that has been teased in a series of increasingly unnerving images and posts. In early November, Snyder responded to an image of a retailer exclusive variant cover for Absolute Joker #15, explaining that "the red lines over [the Joker's] eyes are actually still his mouth. There are teeth in there."

Leading up to the Absolute Joker's monstrous turn, readers have the chance to get their hands on the cover debut of the Absolute Harley Quinn when Absolute Batman #14 arrives in stores on November 26. One variant cover for Absolute Batman #14 by critically-acclaimed artist Darrick Chew showcases the overtly intimidating Absolute Harley Quinn crouched down and ready to strike. The character was introduced in Absolute Batman #13 not as the Joker's sidekick, but as the leader of the Red Hood Gang who just so happens to have her own reasons to want to see the Joker's empire razed to the ground.

The cover to Batman issue #1 depicts Bruce Wayne as Batman and Dick Grayson as Robin swinging through Gotham City.
