Nickelodeon Celebrating “SpongeBob SquarePants” Birthday at San Diego Comic-Con 2026 [UPDATE July 9]

Nickelodeon is once again bringing everyone’s favorite resident who lives in a pineapple under the sea back to San Diego Comic-Con 2026. In celebration of this year’s SpongeBob Day, July 14, Nickelodeon is gearing up for plenty of exciting celebrations, including a TikTok live at 6pm, fan-favorite episodes airing all day, and a visit to San Diego Comic-Con.

During San Diego Comic-Con, Nickelodeon is launching “Fun Flows Here” at The New Children’s Museum park in downtown San Diego from Thursday, July 23 – Sunday, July 26. The free public activation will include a “Kids Imagine Nation” stage with live performances, games, and entertainment inspired by PAW Patrol, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, The Thundermans, and Star Trek: Scouts.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Nickelodeon without slime. Visitors can get slimed at the dedicated slime station, pose for photos with installations themed to SpongeBob SquarePants, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the Kids’ Choice Awards, or head to “Nickelodeon Our World” for make-your-own slime activities, bubble play, DJ sets, and live raffles.

The fun continues Friday, July 24 with an outdoor screening of The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants at 7pm. Museum members will also get an early look during a special preview event on Wednesday, July 23.

The New Children’s Museum itself will be closed to the general public from July 21-26 while the activation takes over the space. However, for information on the activities at the museum before then, read the full update from July 8 below.

[UPDATE July 8]

Nickelodeon will be taking over the park across from the New Children’s Museum for an activation that is, in part, being brought to life by the Museum’s creative team. Plan on fun, potentially slimy, activities and crafts, character meet-and-greets, and interactive experiences, sure to be oozing with fun.

Before the convention, as part of Nickelodeon’s global celebration of SpongeBob’s birthday, the New Children’s Museum will be celebrating Bikini Bottom’s residents with a special, limited-time takeover full of creative activities. The takeover will run from July 11-20, when the museum itself will close for Comic-Con. Museum members also have an opportunity for early access to the Nickelodeon offsite.

At the earlier July festivities, visitors will be able to find:

  • Bubble play and interactive experiences
  • SpongeBob-inspired artmaking activities
  • Slime Time pop-up experiences
  • Jellyfish-themed sensory play
  • A Museum-wide scavenger hunt
  • A special Color of the Day on Loving Dragon
  • Fun photo opportunities and playful surprises throughout the Museum

The Museum is open daily 9am-4pm Wednesdays – Mondays.

Museum admission is $25 for adults, or $20 for children 1+. Children under the age of 1 are free.
