No One Was Supposed to Die at This Wedding by Catherine Mack is the sequel to Every Time I Go on Vacation, Someone Dies. I had no idea it was coming out, and I was so glad I found it, because I love these mysteries! It’s as though Agatha Christie wrote a rom-com.

Certainly, that’s not to everyone’s tastes, and if you might be annoyed by footnotes where the protagonist/narrator talks directly to you with hints as to what’s coming up, this is definitely not for you. But I found it a lot of fun, particularly as a vacation read.

Eleanor Dash, successful mystery author (who solved a murder while on an Italian promotional tour in the first book), is now at a destination wedding on Catalina Island. Her childhood best friend has just finished filming the movie based on her book and is also getting married to her co-star. Oh, and there’s a hurricane heading for the island, but why would a Hollywood star bother evacuating? Everything happens the way they want, right?

Harper, Eleanor’s sister and assistant, is back, as is annoying ex-boyfriend Connor and not annoying ex-boyfriend Oliver. New this book are Simone, the director who doesn’t like The Writer; Shawna, her assistant, who does all the work; David, the screenwriter; and Tyler, the film’s producer.

Of course Eleanor finds a body. Of course there are plenty of twists and turns and reveals and betrayals. I have no idea if anyone could figure this out — I never can — but I really enjoyed the trip (pun intended).
