Five years after Supernatural ended its historic run on television, the franchise is set to return with an epic new comic book series. The first issue goes on sale Oct. 29, just in time for Halloween.

New details have emerged about Supernatural's new upcoming comics run, which will be published by Dynamite Entertainment. The series will be written by Greg Pak, with art by Eder Messias. New issues will be released monthly, with solicits already available for the first three releases, with subsequent issues hitting comic book shops on Nov. 26 and Dec. 10, respectively. Spinning off of the beloved TV series starring Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, the new comics will see the two brothers returning and hunting down new demons, ghosts and monsters.

Supernatural's New Comic Book Series Begins on Oct. 29

Dynamite's Supernatural series will be set between the foundational first and second seasons of the television series, bringing readers back to where the show's magic all began. It will also reveal a disturbing new threat that the Winchester brothers will have to face before they can hunt down the demon who killed their mother.

The first issue will see the Supernatural stars uncovering the entity responsible for a series of mysterious fires in a decaying Rust Belt town, after attacks begin with a Windler Industries factory burning down. Things escalate when several Windler employees go up in flames, too — and finding the force behind the supernatural arson will prove to be a challenge for Sam and Dean. The second issue will see the brothers following their calling further and hunting down monsters after raising funds by gambling their last remaining money at a casino. When Sam makes a new friend at the bar, it turns out to be a sympathetic siren with the ability to change the brothers' fortunes for the better (or maybe even for the very worst.)

December's issue, which is the last to have a solicit at the time of writing, will see zombies entering the Supernatural mix. Sam and Dean find themselves in a small town in Massachusetts dealing with a group of live-action role players who have survived an attack that claimed one of their own. The LARPers want to head back into the forest to save their friend, and they'll do so with all the knowledge of the Winchester brothers at their side.

Supernatural's Creative Team Discusses the New Comic Book Series

Back in July when the Supernatural comic book series was first announced, creators Greg Pak and Eder Messias talked about continuing the story of the iconic television show. "Fans of Supernatural know the show is a blast, and it's an enormous pleasure and privilege to be able to dig into this wild world, especially with Eder Messias," Pak teased. "We're going for fun and grounded, and then we're going to absolutely cut loose when the time comes."

"When I received the invitation to work on the Supernatural comic book series, I almost fell out of my chair! It is by far my favorite television series," Messias added. "Here in Brazil, on Saturday nights, they would show four episodes in a row. After that, we would spend the week talking to friends about the next episodes. I'm looking forward to bringing this story to fans and giving it my best!"

Supernatural #1 will be released on Oct. 29.
