Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.
If there's a chair resting on top of the world, there's a good chance Robert Kirkman is sitting in it. Not only is the legendary creator preparing for "The Month of Invincible" in March 2026 (with an exclusive add-on coming April 1), and in conjunction with Marvel Comics, but he's also enjoying what's happening with his Transformers comic book series.
The latter now boasts a once-in-a-lifetime crossover with explosive potential, as the Autobots explore their recent meeting with G.I. Joe. It marks the first time Optimus Prime will meet Duke, and fans of both franchises will have a hard, but wonderful, time trying to wrap their heads around how they'll be able to enjoy two of their favorite heroes finally being in the same space at the same time; and each of the covers carry their own distinct aura celebrating the union for G.I. Joe #20.

“I love Transformers ... It's one of my favorite books that I look forward to every single month. I've loved Transformers for as long as I've been alive." - Robert Kirkman
Kirkman took over the Transformers series that was previously handled by Corona and Daniel Warren Johnson, injecting a new wave of creativity that was received so well, and immediately, by fans that it quickly received a second printing of Transformers #25 — a Kirkman-Corona collaboration that continues their work together for the franchise and for the Energon Universe.
Transform and Roll Out ... Go Joe!
Courtesy of Skybound, HasbroThe events of G.I. Joe #20 are an obvious continuation of what occurred in G.I. Joe #19, when Duke discovered Clutch was providing refuge to the Hound, the Autobot that was being tracked by G.I. Joe — Matt Trakker also having a hand in the ongoings. That set the stage for a face-off between the two legendary factions as Cobra Commander plots in the background, but it is time things are smoothed over, and the real threat is addressed.
And that's what is likely to make G.I. #20 iconic, because it isn't simply the furthering of that story from the previous edition. It's the fact that, finally, Duke comes face-to-face with Optimus Prime and, once that happens, things will never, ever again be the same within the Energon Universe.
