Legendary Comics is giving fans the official Pacific Rim follow-up that they have spent years waiting to see.
Per an announcement from Legendary, the next chapter in the Pacific Rim saga is only months away. Fans can look forward to getting their copy of Pacific Rim: Final Breach from Legendary Comics on May 2. Written by Joshua Hale Fialkov with art by E.J. Su, colors by Rebecca Good, and design and letters by Comicraft, Pacific Rim: Final Breach is set to offer readers a glimpse at humanity's final battle for the future.
The official solicit synopsis for Pacific Rim: Final Breach from Legendary Comics reads "After years of failed attempts to enter the Anteverse, the trans-dimensional realm from which all Kaiju emerge, Jake Pentecost and Hermann Gottlieb conceive a daring last-ditch plan whose success hinges on finding legendary Jaeger pilot Raleigh Becket—the only human being to ever survive behind enemy lines."
The synopsis continues, "Living in exile off the grid, Raleigh must choose assured annihilation or confront his past and team up with a new generation to pilot the brand-new Gipsy Destroyer, the last Jaeger standing. Tensions escalate and old wounds reopen as the PPDC finally crosses the breach to confront what lies on the other side… It’s time for humanity to meet its true enemy and cancel the apocalypse once and for all."
Where Does Pacific Rim: Final Breach Fit In The Timeline?
Image via LegendaryPacific Rim: Final Breach is set to take place after the events of Pacific Rim Uprising, and appears to be marking the end of the overarching story that began with the release of Pacific Rim back in 2013. Directed by the legendary Guillermo del Toro from a screenplay co-written alongside Travis Beacham, Pacific Rim takes place in a world where humanity's last line of defense against interdimensional kaiju horrors are the towering mech suits known as Jaegers.
Pacific Rim was a massive success upon its release, grossing more than $411 million against a $190 million budget and kicking off a sprawling multimedia franchise. Apart from the 2018 sequel, Pacific Rim Uprising, the franchise has been expanded with multiple video games, an amusement park ride, and the two-season Netflix original anime series Pacific Rim: The Black.
Back in April 2025, it was reported that the long-awaited Pacific Rim prequel series had officially found a home at Prime Video after an agreement was reached by Legendary and Amazon MGM Studios. Arrival writer and Shadow and Bone developer Eric Heisserer is reportedly attached to the project as both writer and executive producer.
Legendary Television president Jason Clodfelter said of the news at the time, "Eric is a multitalented, prolific creator whose track record of critical and commercial successes speaks for itself. We are thrilled to launch our partnership with Eric, Chronology, and Carmen, with a new entry in the epic, globally popular Pacific Rim universe. We are certain their vision will make for an enthralling expansion to Legendary’s beloved franchise."
Pacific Rim: Final Breach from Legendary Comics goes on sale May 2.
