Party, Rage, and Death: The Rob Reiner Family Tragedy

6 days ago 7

Nick Reiner, 32, is expected to face charges for the December 14 stabbing deaths of his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer, in their Brentwood home. A report details that he began using heroin at 16 after leaving an early rehab program.

Reiner has long struggled with substance abuse, a pattern documented by the New York Post. At a recent holiday party, Conan O’Brien reportedly prevented guests from calling 911 over concerns about Nick’s behavior. Hours earlier, Rob and Michele attended the party with their son, who was described by an insider as having an argument with his father that grew loud enough for someone to consider contacting the police. The insider said O’Brien intervened and declined to involve law enforcement, saying the party was his.

Reiner previously spoke about his addictions. In 2016, he told the Dopey podcast that he attended a wilderness program in Utah called Second Nature. He said he met a Venice-area teenager there and, by 18, lived in sober housing. He described how he later called the same person, who he knew was using heroin, years after their initial meeting. He added that the experience exposed him to a broader set of people, despite its negative effects.

The wilderness program Reiner attended aims to help teens aged 13 to 17 overcome addiction through outdoor work. Nick Reiner has reportedly been in and out of rehab more than a dozen times and was receiving treatment at a private, high-end mental health facility in Los Angeles, at a cost of about $70,000 per month.

There has been speculation that Reiner could use his father’s money to cover legal costs, even as a California law restricts payments from a victim’s estate to someone who intentionally killed another person.
