Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.

As the most sophisticated species on Earth's food chain, humans are the typical choice of prey for Yautja in the Predator franchise. However, what would happen if the intergalactic hunter landed on a version of Earth where evolution did Homo sapiens dirty?

A Yautja meets his match in a world dominated by primates in Predator vs. the Planet of the Apes, a new crossover comic book series published by Marvel in collaboration with 20th Century Studios.

The story begins like any other in the Predator universe, with a member of the fearsome extraterrestrial race crash-landing in the jungles of a planet that may appear familiar to readers. That is because it is, indeed, Earth that the Yautja has found itself on, but certainly not in the present day.

Instead, the Yautja are in a distant future in which human beings are at the mercy of apes, who have developed the ability to walk fully upright and even speak. This leads to a three-way battle for survival between the alien being, the fierce primates, and their desperate human slaves.

Bringing these iconic sci-fi movie franchises together for the first time in Predator vs. the Planet of the Apes is writer Greg Pak, who is already known for reviving beloved properties in comic book form. For instance, he penned Dynamite Entertainment's adaptations of SyFy's Battlestar Galactica, the John Wick movies, and the James Bond films, as well as Marvel's Star Wars series starting in 2019.

The five-issue limited series is illustrated by Alan Robinson, who is also no stranger to comics inspired by cinematic sci-fi classics, having also worked on Star Wars comics published by Marvel. He and Pak also collaborated on the special prelude to Predator vs. the Planet of the Apes called Alien, Predator, & Planet of the Apes CGD 2026 #1, which will hit the shelves on May 2, 2026.

The Predator Series and Planet of the Apes Both Have Comic Book Histories

The Predator and Planet of the Apes series are both prime examples of long-running sci-fi franchises that continue to thrive decades after inception. The original 1987 Predator, still Arnold Schwarzenegger's most quotable movie to many, spawned its eighth sequel (including the Alien vs. Predator movies) with Predator: Badlands in 2025, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, the franchise's 11th feature, hit theaters in 2024, 56 years after the first.

Of course, both franchises have also expanded themselves beyond the big screen with the comic book medium, and to great success, long before converging in Predator vs. the Planet of the Apes.

Planet's comic book history dates back to the year of the Charlton Heston-led classic's release in 1968, with the first of two manga adaptations of the film, before Gold Key Comics shifted things to the States with an adaptation of the first sequel, Beneath the Planet of the Apes. Marvel would first assume the rights from 1974 to 1977 before it was passed down between multiple publishers, including Dark Horse (which released a tie-in to Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes remake in 2001) and Boom! Studios for a time each.

The first Predator comic, a late 1980s Dark Horse release, was a direct sequel following the brother of Schwarzenegger's Dutch, New York City detective, John Schaefer, and is said to have inspired the film's cinematic 1990 follow-up, Predator 2, which also boasts an urban setting. In fact, the franchise's graphic counterparts wound up having a major influence on it for the big screen, such as with Alien vs. Predator comics becoming a pair of movies in the 2000s.

Both franchises are also known for their mind-blowing comic book crossovers, such as when Planet of the Apes converged with the likes of Star Trek, Tarzan, and King Kong during its years at Boom! Studios. Marvel even has plans to bring the primates face-to-face with The Fantastic Four later in 2026.

The Yautja has also had many run-ins with famous comic book staples, such as Batman, Wolverine, and even Archie. However, Predator vs. the Planet of the Apes sees this obviously perfect pairing finally becoming a reality.
