Professor X Just Broke One of Krakoa’s Most Sacred Rules to Bring Back the Love of His Life

The following contains major spoilers for X-Force #9, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Professor X has just rewritten the rules of Krakoan Resurrection to bring back the most important love of his life.

While the eponymous team of X-Force #9 are locked in a devastating battle with the superpowered villain known as La Diabla, their teammate on the fringes, Sage, is busy racing against the clock to help get the fugitive Charles Xavier exactly where he needs to be. As it turns out, that means not just preparing Charles for a trip to the cosmos, but doing the same for whoever it is he has in tow within a Krakoan Resurrection Egg. Unsurprisingly, when the time comes for that Egg to hatch, the person inside is no fellow mutant, but Charles' beloved Lilandra instead, and she is more than ready to help him save their daughter.

Introduced back in 1975's X-Men #97 by Chris Claremont and Dave Cockrum, the former Majestrix Lilandra Neramani was born on Aerie the Throneworld and capitol of the Shi'ar Empire. The then latest in a long line of royal lineage that had ruled over the Shi'ar Empire for decades, Lilandra was always bound for greatness. That being said, it wasn't until after her older sister Cal'syee, better known as Deathbird, murdered both their mother and brother that Lilandra was set up as next in line for the throne as Majestrix.

Prior to Lilandra's ascension to the throne, she called upon Charles Xavier and his X-Men to aid her in preventing her twisted brother D'Ken from destroying the universe with the power of the fabled M'kraan Crystal. Over the course of this particular adventure, Lilandra grew close to Charles, and soon enough the two were embarking upon one of the most fiery romances that Marvel Comics has ever known. In the years that followed, Lilandra and the Shi'ar Empire would have a role to play in numerous storylines, all the way up until her tragic demise at the hands of a possessed Darkhawk in 2009's War of Kings #4 by Dan Abnett, Andy Lanning, and Paul Pelletier.

The Avengers have finally discovered exactly how far Doctor Doom's latest plan goes, and they are already too late to do anything about it.

Following Lilandra's demise, the wider Shi'ar Empire decided to take drastic measures of their own to ensure that her legacy would remain intact and that a Neramani would remain on the throne. To that end, the genetic materials of Lilandra and Xavier were used to artificially conceive their daughter, the Majestrix Xandra Neramani. Unfortunately, the young Majestrix is currently the subject of a brazen attack by a band of violent revolutionaries who believe she is not only unfit for the throne as a person, but by the nature of her very being as both an artificially conceived individual and a human-Shi'ar hybrid.

Since their debut in 1963, Marvel's X-Men have been more than just another superhero team. While the team really hit its stride as the All New, All Different X-Men in 1975, Marvel's heroic mutants have always operated as super-outcasts, protecting a world that hates and fears them for their powers.

Key members of the X-Men include Professor X, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Wolverine, Iceman, Beast, Rogue, and Storm. Often framed as the world's second strongest superheroes, after the Avengers, they are nonetheless one of Marvel's most popular and important franchises.
