Protests Outside ‘Captain American 4’ Aren’t for Reasons You Might Think

A group of demonstrators held signs and chanted “free Palestine” and “boycott Disney” at the Captain America: Brave New World premiere this week. Protesters chanted, “Disney, Disney, you can’t hide; we charge you with genocide,” outside the world-famous El Capitan theater on Hollywood Boulevard.

These protests lasted for several hours and were inspired by the movie’s inclusion of an Israeli superhero called Sabra, or Ruth Bat-Seraph, a super-powered agent in the comics, and portrayed by Shira Haas. As Variety notes:

Protestors held signs that read “Sabra has got to go,” “Disney supports genocide,” “Boycott ‘Captain America’” and “Pray 4 Princess Jasmine.” They chanted phrases such as “Free, free, free Palestine” and “Disney, Disney you can’t hide.”

The inclusion of Sabra, who was a Mossad agent in the comics, sparked controversy among Palestinian fans in 2022. Marvel soon released a statement assuring that it is taking a “new approach” to the character for “Brave New World.”

Oh, we know all about that new effort. Marvel tried to please everyone by making her an agent, but no powers whatsoever. Who was that expected to please?  Disney has been increasing its efforts to remove all of their “woke” initiatives like DEI amid backlash from investors.

The protests all seem to be in vain, since the movie is reportedly terrible.
