Earlier this week, Oni Press released an ominous teaser for its long-running Rick and Morty comic book series (Oni Press has been doing Rick and Morty comic books for over a decade now) with Rick and Morty just encountering "The End." Fans naturally were quite concerned, and now, Oni Press is revealing what it all means, but it appears as though this actually WILL mean an actual end for Rick and Morty at Oni Press.
First, though, there will be a miniseries titled Rick and Morty: The End by writer Daniel Kibblesmith and artist Jarrett Williams, that will run for six issues, beginning in December. What comes next, though, is a lot harder to say.
What is Rick and Morty: The End About?
Currently at Oni Press, Kibblesmith is heading up a massive crossover event called Rick and Morty Versus the Universe, where Rick and Morty have angered their old universe as well as the CURRENT universe they live in (known as the Parmesan Universe because everything is the same except that people pronounce "Parmesan" as "par-mee-zee-an")
Oni Press describes the new series as follows:
Rick Sanchez, the most wanted man in this and every other universe, is on the run. With a bounty on his head, every government, military, pirate, mobster, bounty hunter, bail bondsman, religious institution, theater troupe, circus clown, and endangered species is on the hunt to bring in Rick – DEAD OR ALIVE. The only one who can bring Rick in warm is the one person who knows him best: Morty Smith. But Morty’s not the only Smith hot on Rick’s trail . . . "Space Beth" Smith is determined to bring Rick in, and she doesn’t particularly care how. Now it’s just a question of who can get to him first…!
Is this the end of the road for Rick and Morty at Oni Press?
While this certainly sounds like a cool story, it also doesn't sound all that different from a lot of Rick and Morty's past adventures, just perhaps on a bit of a larger scale. However, Oni Press' press release for the story also included a line that does sound particularly ominous still.
THIS TITLE IS NOT SOME KIND OF ARTFUL METAPHOR, FOLKS! After 10 years and 100+ issues, the beginning of THE END starts here as acclaimed writer Daniel Kibblesmith (Loki) and artistic annihilator Jarrett Williams (Speed Force) prepare to unleash a fantastically fatal finale for RICK AND MORTY!
If the title is, in fact, not a metaphor, then this appears to suggest that Rick and Morty might be ending its license at Oni Press after over a decade. We'll only know for sure, though, when this series comes to an end.
Rick and Morty: The End #1 is due out on December 3, 2025.
