John Dodge is an MTV Writer for CBR who specializes in movies, television, comics, and pop culture. He has a deep knowledge of franchises like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel, and DC Comics, along with a passion for indie and horror titles. An expert on obscure productions from the ’80s and ’90s, John is known for his encyclopedic recall of cult classics like Beetleborgs.

The end of Rick and Morty's most unexpected adventure has finally been revealed, and it isn't the finale fans thought it would be.

Per Screen Rant, the upcoming Rick and Morty: The End #6 by writer Daniel Kibblesmith, artist Jarrett Williams, with colorist Alessandro Santoro, which has been billed for months as the finale issue on Oni Press' ongoing epic, will not be the finale fans expected. Instead, that honor will go to Rick and Morty Forever #0, which will see Troy Little step in as lead artist, and which looks to add a whole new layer to the entire franchise.

Oni Press addressed the announcement in a mildly self-deprecating statement, reading, "In one last shamelessly transparent promotional stunt, Oni Press, unsatisfied with the end of The End, proudly presents Rick and Morty Forever... the final issue of Oni Press' immortal run on the sci-fi, dimension-hopping, foul-mouthed, pretentiously beautiful, intellectual temper tantrum turned cultural phenomenon known as Rick and Morty!"

The official solicit synopsis for Rick and Morty Forever #0 from Oni Press reads, "How do you punish the smartest man in the universe? Show him everything—everything—he's ever wanted to know or see... and afford him no power to do anything about it. Rick Sanchez, the destroyer of worlds. Now he sits in endless observation of all there is to see, tortured by cosmic impotence, the ultimate expression of "go to your room and think about what you did."

The synopsis continues, "But in his endless torment, Rick realizes that a fate of unspeakable horror also awaits his unwitting companion: his grandson, Morty. Can Rick save the soul of the only being that ever stood by him through all his indiscretions? Can the transformative power of love give rise to the triumph of the human spirit? Or is everything just #@$%@?"

Oni Press Has Kept Rick and Morty Alive Through A Fresh Form of Entertainment

Oni Press' Rick and Morty: The End has been an absolute hit with fans of the franchise since it began, and has taken its eponymous duo on one of their wildest interdimensional adventures yet. Along the way, Rick and Morty have crossed paths with plenty of iconic characters, including the Vindicators (now known as the Vinricktators), not to mention a few new faces.

Fortunately, there will still be plenty more Rick and Morty for fans to pour over even after Oni Press' latest run on the title is over, and not just on the small screen. In February, it was confirmed that the second volume of Rick and Morty: The Manga by writer Josh Tierney and artist JeyOdin, subtitled Vol.2: After-School Science Club, was headed to stores everywhere.

Although the Rick and Morty: The Manga series showcases the franchise in a different format than most readers are accustomed to, it is still very much the expected Rick and Morty experience. As noted by writer Josh Tierney, "Dark, absurdist humor is a core part of my being, and I've been collecting manga since I was 8, so when I was asked to write this book, I couldn't believe how perfect an opportunity it was... If you're a Rick and Morty fan who is deep into manga, I wrote this for you. And for me. Let's get lost in Akiba together."

Rick and Morty Forever #0 from Oni Press goes on sale May 27.
