Oni Press shocked a number of comic book fans when it announced that it was releasing Rick and Morty: The End, a miniseries that it specifically hyped up as "THIS TITLE IS NOT SOME KIND OF ARTFUL METAPHOR, FOLKS!" It appears as though Rick and Morty comic books will be coming to an end at Oni Press after over a decade of being part of the company. Until that is confirmed, though, there is still hope.
Oni Press recently released its January 2026 comic book solicitations, though, and it included a solicitation for the second issue of Rick and Morty: The End, and it definitely doesn't sound good for our heroes.
What is the solicitation for the next issue of Rick and Morty: The End?
RICK AND MORTY: THE END #2 (of 6)
WRITTEN BY DANIEL KIBBLESMITH
ART BY JARRETT WILLIAMS
COVER A BY DAVE BARDIN
COVER B BY TROY LITTLE
MOST WANTED VARIANT (1:10) BY PHIL MURPHY
VARIANT (1:20) BY TOM FOWLER
IT’S ALL OVER—ALMOST! Dangerously deranged interdimensional masterminds Daniel Kibblesmith (Loki) and Jarrett Williams (Speed Force) are counting down to the end of all things, and no one is ready for what’s coming next—especially RICK AND MORTY!
A super-team of B-list heroes and bounty hunters has formed the dorkiest posse in the universe to find and capture the most-wanted man in history: Rick Sanchez. Organized by the Parmesan Universe after Rick’s antics [see: everything he’s ever done], this not-so-super team decides the best way to capture Rick is to send Morty to bring his grandfather in peacefully. But, through his own interdimensional genius, it turns out that Rick has been hiding out in idealized self-fan fiction! So Morty is about to surprise Rick in the last place he’d ever expect: his own imagination! (And yes, that is a terrible idea!)

What storyline did Rick and Morty: The End launch out of?
Daniel Kibblesmith was previously the writer in charge of a major Oni Press Rick and Morty crossover event called Rick and Morty Versus the Universe. You see, at an earlier point in the Rick and Morty series, the characters had to abandon their original universe, and move to a new universe that was absolutely identical to their previous universe, except that in THIS universe, everyone says the word Parmesan as "par-mee-zee-an" instead of "par-meh-zh-ahn".
Well, as it turned out, Rick and Morty's PREVIOUS universe (which they had to abandon after everyone was turned into a David Cronenberg-esque monster, hence it often just being referred to as the Cronenberg Universe), which presents as male, decided to marry the Parmesan Universe (which presents as female). Well, Rick and Morty ended up ruining the wedding, and now they have universes (plural!) mad at them, and that is what leads us to the end.
Rick and Morty: The End #2 is due out on January 7, 2026.
