Stranger Things' star Sadie Sink's Spider-Man: Brand New Day character might just be the Spider-Verse's latest big bad.

Per ComicBookMovie, the recently leaked trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has seemingly cemented Sink's role as a villain in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film, and fans think they know exactly who that will be. Specifically, the ancient, insectile Shathra, whose powers go a lot farther than merely cutting down her foes.

Reportedly, Sink's character is heard saying, "You're a mess, Spider-Man. Don't get in my way. Otherwise, it won't just be your friends who don't remember who Peter Parker is." This indicates that Sink's character is perfectly aware of who Peter Parker truly is even after Doctor Strange's spell was cast in 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home.

This has given fans the idea that Sink's character both hails from beyond the primary MCU and is capable of erasing people from time entirely, both of which point towards her being Shathra. An ancient Wasp-Goddess from the Loomworld of Earth-001, Shathra was once a benevolent entity, before her life's work, the Great Nest, was eschewed in favor of her sister Neith's Great Web, otherwise known as the Web of Life and Destiny.

This rejection drove Shathra to begin tearing her way through the Web of Life and Destiny, transforming various Spiders from across the Multiverse into her insectile minions while untethering others from time altogether. Among the first to fall to Shathra's attack was the primary Peter Parker, whose entire existence was effectively erased up until the final battle for the fate of the Multiverse.

Despite the fan theories and constant onslaught of speculation, Sink herself has remained steadfast when it comes to keeping things under wraps. When pressed about what role she will be playing in the MCU during the premiere of Stranger Things Season 5 back in November, Sink simply replied, "I thought this was the Stranger Things premiere. I wasn't prepared."

What Comes After Spider-Man: Brand New Day?

While there is still no telling exactly what Spider-Man: Brand New Day will bring to the silver screen when it arrives, fans do have a rough idea of what to expect to come from it once it does. Returning MCU star Job Bernthal, who will be reprising his role as Frank Castle, aka the Punisher, for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, previously confirmed that the film will directly lead into the events of the hotly-anticipated Punisher streaming special from Marvel Studios.

"There will also be this Punisher special that's coming out, that I think will be as high-octane Punisher as you've ever seen," Bernthal said back in early December. "I think what was really important to me and to [director] Destin [Daniel Cretton] and to Tom [Holland] is that we believed that The Punisher could walk off of the Spider-Man set and could walk onto the special set, and I do believe that we achieved that."

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently slated to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026.
