The official solicit synopsis for Archie x The Army of Darkness #4 from Dynamite Entertainment reads, "The forces of evil need Archie Andrews alive to fully open the gates to hell for the Army of Darkness, but Archie is protected by Ash, who’s an old hand at dispatching the average Deadite. Needing a new strategy, Ash’s evil counterpart creates some new Deadite doppelgängers to help him reach his goal."
The solicit text continues, "It's Bad Betty, Vile Veronica, Rotten Reggie, a Jughead doppelgänger so evil there’s no alliteration that could do him justice, and, of course, ARCHIE OF DARKNESS! Archie x The Army of Darkness Revisits Riverdale With A Sam Raimi-Inspired Twist
Image via Dynamite EntertainmentReaders got their first look at Archie x The Army of Darkness back in November 2025, with fans of both franchises getting their first glimpse at all the horror ready to befall the otherwise ordinary town of Riverdale. The series finds Ash Williams making his way through Riverdale in search of the Necronomicon Ex Mortis, which just so happened to be stumbled upon by none other than Archie Andrews himself, paving the way for Riverdale's darkest chapter yet.
Archie Comics Senior Director of Editorial Jamie L. Rotante previously said of Archie x The Army of Darkness, "Having read the script for issue #1, I can assure you that Erik Burham's story is going to take readers on a thrill ride that pays homage to the best of both worlds. Plus, Bill Galvan's been an Archie mainstay for years, who continuously impresses us both with his ability to perfectly capture the essence of the Archie characters, while also creating eye-catching, outside-the-box, and sometimes downright horrifying art on his array of specialty variant covers."
For those who have fallen in love with the darker side of Riverdale, they can rejoice to know that the fan-favorite Afterlife With Archie comic book series by writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and artist Francesco Francavilla is getting its own streaming adaptation from Disney+. The upcoming series will be written by Aguirre-Sacasa, with Berlanti Productions' Greg Berlanti teaming up with the scribe once more, which comes as no surprise considering the success of their past collaborations, Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
