On Thursday, July 24th, 2025, The Beat caught up with The Nacelle Company CEO Brian Volk-Weiss. We were delighted to join Volk-Weiss at the Nacelle booth (#2547), where he showed off prototype action figures for the upcoming first and second waves of the company’s new Star Trek line. Here’s what we learned about the exciting figures from the conversation.
Nacelle’s Star Trek Action Figures
All eight of the action figures from Nacelle’s first wave of Nacelle’s Star Trek action figures are on display at the Nacelle booth throughout SDCC ’25. If you’re planning on visiting before the convention concludes on Sunday evening, you can get a look at the figures discussed in this article for yourself.
Leading off the are Star Trek: The Next Generation guest starring characters Captain Edward Jellico and Captain Rachel Garrett. “These two are the entire inspiration for this line,” Volk-Weiss explained. For years, Volk-Weiss told his friends who worked at toy companies to make figures of the characters. But sometimes, you just have to do it yourself.
As far as accessories go, Jellico comes with Livingston’s aquarium from Picard’s ready room. “Because if you remember, [Jellico] says get this out of here [in The Next Generation episode “Chain of Command”],” Volk-Weiss said. “So we thought that would be funny.” He also comes with Jellico’s kid’s finger paint art.
Meanwhile, the Garrett figure comes with multiple heads, one of which reflects the injuries she sustains over the course of The Next Generation episode “Yesterday’s Enterprise.”. And as for the accessories, the Garrett figure comes with both 23rd century and 24th century phasers and communicators, to reflect the time travel depicted in the episode.
Wave One continued
The next wave one figure on display is Valkris. A Klingon operative who appears on screen for 81 seconds in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, the Valkris figure comes with an impressive accessory. “It comes with the Genesis Device, or torpedo as she would call it,” Volk-Weiss told The Beat. “[And the] Genesis control panel. The little button in the middle? Just like in the movie, when you turn the knob with all the red lines next to it, it goes in.”
Another figure included in the first wave of Nacelle Star Trek action figures is the titular hybrid from Star Trek: Voyager’s “Tuvix.” His accessories include the “symbiogenetic alien orchid” which caused the transporter to merge Tuvok and Neelix, as well as an alternate head depicting Tuvix’s expression in the episode’s memorable climactic scene.
Next up in wave two is Hikaru Sulu from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. Sulu comes with the Excelsior coffee cup and saucer, phasers and communicators from both Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and Star Trek VI, and includes a device on his chest so that his jacket may be displayed as opened or closed. As Volk-Weiss explained, “The reason why we do it this way… is because other than the rank insignia on his wrist, you can use him for Star Trek II if you want.”
Speaking of Star Trek II, another wave one figure is Midshipman Peter Preston, revealed to be Scotty’s nephew in a deleted scene. The Preston figure comes with a burned head to reflect the fatal injuries sustained by the character in the movie.
Wave One concluded
And representing Star Trek: Enterprise is Captain Archer (“In A Mirror, Darkly” Edition). This figure depicts the Mirror Universe incarnation of the first Starfleet captain from the fourth season Enterprise episode. “We did a whole blast asking people who they wanted,” Volk-Weiss stated. Other than T’Pol, Mirror Archer was the most requested Enterprise character.
The Mirror Archer figure comes with a spilling glass so Trekkies can re-create the bizarre champaign-dumping scene from the climax of the episode. And like Garrett, Archer will come with accessories from multiple centuries to reflect the time travel element of the episode.
And rounding out the first wave of Nacelle Star Trek figures is Weyoun from Deep Space Nine. Volk-Weiss revealed that this was the most-requested figure by far. The Weyoun figure’s accessories include half a pizza and the chopsticks he uses to eat it in the episode “Treachery, Faith and the Great River.” Among other accessories, the figure also comes with a Ketracel-white box and several vials of Ketracel-white.
Wave Two
Three prototype figures from the forthcoming wave two were also on display. The first is Captain James T. Kirk from Star Trek: Generations. The accessories included with this figure include a figure-scale horse, a stump and piece of firewood, an axe (which sits in the stump) and a bottle of dill weed. The last accessory pays homage to what Volk-Weiss describes as “the strangest scene in the history of Star Trek: Captain Kirk asks Captain Picard to get the dill weed.”
Next up from wave two is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’s Nog. “You’re probably wondering: does his leg come off?” Volk-Weiss said. “Yes, of course it does.” This will most likely be accomplished with magnets.
Another prototype figure from wave two is Captain Kathryn Janeway from the Star Trek: Voyager episode “Year of Hell.” Janeway comes with multiple hands: one holding a pocket watch, one without the pocket watch and a separate accessory of the pocket watch by itself. She’ll also come with multiple phasers and an alternate head depicting the scar she sustains in the episode.
Nacelle’s Star Trek line
What’s the secret to the incredible deep cuts included among Nacelle’s Star Trek figures? Part of it is asking the fans. Nacelle runs an email address, [email protected], where Trekkies can request the figures they most want to see from the company in the future. According to information shared at the Nacelle Star Trek Action Figure Panel, Volk-Weiss himself has responded personally to the over 7,000 messages received at the address so far.
And the other part of the unique figures Nacelle is producing is the fact that Volk-Weiss himself is a fan. He told us that he got into the Franchise in the usual way. “My mom loves Star Trek,” he explained. “That’s what she would watch. Now I love Star Trek. It’s not that much more complicated. I fell in love with it, in particular Wrath of Khan.”
The first wave of Star Trek figures are currently available for preorder, and are expected to arrive later this year, in Q4 2025. And if you are at SDCC, you’ll want to swing by the Nacelle booth to get a look at the exciting prototypes for yourself.
