The official solicit synopsis for Escape from Skull Island #1 from Titan Comics reads, "Trapped on Skull Island, a desperate band of survivors struggles against the land’s relentless horrors while an ancient threat rises from below."

"But as chaos unfolds, flashbacks reveal Kong’s turbulent youth: his battles, losses, and the primal instincts that shaped him into the island’s sovereign. Now, as hordes of monstrous beasts close in on the stranded humans, the most dangerous enemy of all regains strength to once more challenge Kong’s throne."

Escape from Skull Island is the second MonsterVerse series released by Titan Comics after the hit Return to Skull Island series earlier this year. While Return to Skull Island offered an action-packed, pulse-pounding adventure for fans of the Legendary Pictures MonsterVerse franchise, Escape from Skull Island is already shaping up to be a decidedly more horrifying sort of pulp affair.

Both of Titan Comics' Skull Island series serve as extensions of the animated series of the same name, which ran for just a single season on Netflix in 2023. Set in the 1990s, Skull Island followed a group of intrepid adventurers who set out to rescue a young woman stranded at sea. Soon enough, the entire crew is stranded on Skull Island, where they must band together to survive the treacherous terrain and monstrous inhabitants of the series' eponymous locale.

Skull Island was met with largely rave reviews upon its release, garnering an 82% "Fresh" rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a 75% audience-generated "Popcornmeter" score, the latter of which was averaged across more than 100 verified user-submitted ratings. In spite of its apparent success, Skull Island was never renewed for a second season, making the Titan Comics Skull Island releases all the more exciting for fans of the MonsterVerse.

Escape from Skull Island #1 goes on sale Jan. 28, 2026, from Titan Comics.
