Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.
For all the praise that Robert Pattinson receives for his performance in The Batman and all the anticipation fans are feeling for the DC Universe's upcoming reinvention of The Dark Knight, the love for Ben Affleck's Batman refuses to die. Thankfully, Snyderverse obsessives are still being fed reasons to celebrate this lost era, such as with a recently announced item from Hot Toys.
The manufacturer, which specializes in collectible pop culture-inspired figurines, is releasing an action figure based on Ben Affleck's Batman. It is a new edition of a previous item inspired by the vigilante's armored suit, as seen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice from 2016.
The new 1/6th scale figure comes with all the most definitive features introduced in the climactic scene from Zack Snyder's crossover epic, in which the mortal Bruce Wayne takes necessary precautions to face off against Superman (Henry Cavill). For instance, it sports a die-cast armored head with white, light-up eyes (a dream come true for those who always wanted to see Batman's white eyes in a live-action adaptation), interchangeable faceplates to alter Batfleck's expression and gadgets, such as a grapple gun.
The deluxe edition comes with a replica of the Kryptonite spear that Batman nearly stabs Superman with, complete with a built-in LED light for a glowing effect. It also includes a damaged replacement head with matching additional armored pieces that have been "scarred" from battle with the Man of Steel.
Hot Toys previously released another figure based on this now iconic image of Batfleck in 2016. However, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Armored Batman (2.0) is not a mere rework but a fully new item with an improved, more highly detailed and screen-accurate design, as seen in Hot Toys Instagram post.
Curiously, the item's announcement came just hours after Zack Snyder posted a photo of the armored Batman suit from his film on Instagram, which initially sparked rumors of a reinstatement of the DC Extended Universe. However, that is a less likely theory than the possibility that the filmmaker had early access to Hot Toys' new release and opted to help build anticipation.
Hot Toys Recently Announced Another DCEU-Inspired Batman Figure
Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett CollectionThe Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Armored Batman (2.0) is only the second Batman figurine with ties to the DCEU that Hot Toys announced this week. Two days earlier, the company's Instagram account released photos of an upcoming item resembling Michael Keaton's Dark Knight, but in a unique fashion.
The Batman (Blue & Grey Suit) Collectible Figure sees Keaton's Bruce Wayne ditch his typically solid black outfit for a blue and gray design, which was typically traditional for the character in the comics for years before Tim Burton's Batman redefined his look in 1989. The action figure is particularly inspired by a shot of a blue and gray suit found in the Batcave in the divisive 2023 movie, The Flash, in which Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) and his alternate reality self seek help from an older version of The Dark Knight for help to defeat Zod.
The Hot Toys release, which goes on sale later this year, has already come under fire from fans unimpressed with how the figure depicts Keaton's mouth, in particular. However, the item comes with two extra faceplates to change his expression, as well as replacement hands, utilities and a posable cape and set of limbs to make Keaton's blue and gray Batman look as badass as fams may prefer.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Armored Batman (2.0) goes on sale in late 2025.
