“The Serpent Ring – Part 01: Dead Man’s Promise”
The spears flew past Paolo Laurenti as he ran through the jungle brush, the scream from one of his porters erupted just ahead. The natives were not known for their accuracy in the dark. However, where aim was a hindrance, the number of missiles more than made up for the Ndongo’s inadequacies. The relic must make it back to the ship, no matter the cost. If the Italian explorer failed here, his benefactor would not have the coin to pay for future expeditions. The relic cannot be lost now!
Weeks later, the tranquil sea air along the Barbary Coast was split by thunderous cannon fire. A privateer galleon, commissioned by Queen Elizabeth I, had just opened fire upon a Portuguese caravel. The English broadside rips through the lavishly carved wood of the merchant vessel, sending mizzenmast and sailors alike toppling overboard into the sapphire blue waters below. Perched upon the upper forecastle of the attacking ship, the Puritan, known as Solomon Kane, prepares to storm the decks of the now crippled Gaviota.
Can Solomon Kane parley with the Portuguese captain before the caravel sinks into the South Atlantic? Why is a serpentine figure, stolen from a tribe in Africa, coveted so highly by a Jewish mystic living in the ghetto of Vecchio? Will a Jesuit priest be able to stop Ndongo from becoming the next Kongo disaster? Collect the series to find out!
Reviewer Notes
Solomon Kane has returned to comic book store shelves with this exclusive Titan Comics series “Solomon Kane: The Serpent Ring”. Led by writer/artist Patch Zircher, Titan has produced another literary gem. From the highly detailed historical setting, to the stunning visual layouts, Zircher has proved once again, comic books are not a media of the past. Issue #01 is an outstanding beginning that would make Robert E Howard proud. I give this issue four out of five stars.
