“The Serpent Ring – Part 04: Hell On Earth“
Taken prisoner by the serpent-men of Set, Abramo Bensaid, the Jewish sage of Venice, is about to learn the true history of mankind. Nearby, Rolando Zarza and the remaining members of the Bensaid expedition have reached the outskirts of the vale temple. As Nico Cassani distracts the group with his brash behavior towards Abramo’s daughter, they fail to detect the hundreds of eyes watching them from the ruin mound complex.
To the west, Solomon Kane is slowly recovering from the snake bite he received at the battle of Pungo Andongo, but the venom is still affecting his senses. He may be a mile from the group that left him for dead, or merely a few moments away. It makes little difference as a pack of bloodthirsty hyenas have just surrounded his position. Africa may have been the cradle of civilization, but animals still rule the plains.
Can Diamanta Bensaid defend herself against two unchecked rogues that show no bounds? Will the Jesuit brother, Mbondu, allow the Spaniards to rule his people? Who will control the fate of the Ring of Set? Collect the series to find out!
“An Interview”
Writer/Artist Patrick Zircher opens up about his Solomon Kane miniseries here in issue #04.
Reviewer Notes
This was an excellent ending to Patrick Zircher’s “Serpent Ring” miniseries. Hopefully, this will spark future adventures of the 16th-century Puritan and the supernatural world in which he lives. To be honest, I knew very little of the character before reading the Titan books. Marvel published Solomon Kane comics sporadically and without any movie adaptations outside the 2009 production starring James Purefoy, the character has been kept from the public eye.
Needless to say, if handled correctly, Solomon Kane could be as big as Hellboy (Dark Horse Comics) or Blade (Marvel Comics). I digress. I give Solomon Kane: The Serpent Ring #04 four out of five stars. The series as a whole is a four-star jaunt into swashbuckling horror.
