SOUTH PARK Season 27 teases new war with Canada and the return of Starvin’ Marvin

It’s hard to believe it’s been more than two years since the last season of South Park aired. Granted, within that time creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have released three specials on Paramount+ but nothing beats the regular South Park show. And given the chaos of the last few months, it’s not like Parker and Stone don’t have much to work with. But as the saying goes, good things come to those who wait as Comedy Central today announced new episodes of the long-running adult animated series with the premiere of South Park Season 27 Wednesday, July 9th.

Moreover, a trailer was released teasing what fans can look forward to. Check it out below:

As you can see, South Park Season 27 is indeed hitting the ground running with the topical storylines, a staple of the series since the beginning. While I’m sure some were hoping to see the show’s take on the most recent election, Parker and Stone will not be shying away from the politics of the current administration. While previous seasons utilized the character Mr. Garrison as a Trump stand-in, it appears that won’t be the case for the new season. In fact, according to a Vanity Fair interview, even the duo admit there’s not much more to say about the current president.

We’ve tried to do South Park through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to—it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance,” Stone says. “Obviously, it’s fucking important, but it kind of takes over everything and we just have less fun.” Parker adds, “I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.”

Nevertheless, there will be no shortage of political commentary. Case in point, the tariff war with Canada was pretty much begging for South Park to put its own spin on it. Likewise, it appears we’ll be seeing the return of Starvin’ Marvin, the malnourished Ethiopian child last seen settling on the alien planet Marklar. It’s anyone’s guess what will reunite him with the Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman but whatever the reason, it also involves P Diddy.
