One of the most terrifying gods in the Multiverse has just wormed his way back into Spider-Gwen's life.

With a literal clock ticking down to the death of the Black Tarantulas' next victim, the titular hero of Spider-Gwen: The Ghost-Spider #10 races against time to stop the elder Black Tarantula, from gunning someone down in cold blood, and to stop his son from following in his footsteps in anything more than name. Though Gwen can't quite outrun a speeding bullet, the younger Black Tarantula is right there to dive in front of it. Thankfully, there is another unexpected figure whose sudden appearance could very well save the younger villain's life, although what King Loki will ask in exchange may not be a price worth paying.

First seen in 2014's Loki: Agent of Asgard #1 by Al Ewing and Lee Garbett, the version of the Asgardian Trickster God who would become King Loki took up the task of working for the All-Mother of Asgardia in exchange for erasing his past crimes. Over the course of centuries, the future King Loki served dutifully under the All-Mother, rescuing Thor from his own worst self, saving all of Asgard from the forces of Heven, and even snuffing out the Ultron Singularity. Tragically, King Loki's reputation remained that of a villain, just as his legacy continued to be that of the God of Lies, which drove him to annihilate all life on Earth in an act of twisted divine retribution.

While this could have easily been the end of King Loki's story, it was instead just the beginning of the biggest chapter of his life. After being sought out by his own younger self, who was again working at the behest of the All-Mother of Asgardia, King Loki became embroiled in a conspiracy to ensure the worst possible future for the world came to pass. Despite this and his other countless evil acts, King Loki was eventually given the opportunity to redeem himself not just by standing against the threat of an ascended Gorr the God Butcher, but by giving up his own life to reignite the Sun itself.

The former Sorcerer Supreme of the Marvel Universe has finally revealed the true stakes at hand during the "Eight Deaths of Spider-Man" event.

Although it is hard to say that the King Loki seen in Spider-Gwen: The Ghost Spider #10 is the same version who sacrificed himself previously, it is clear that he is a far cry from the primary Marvel Universe's same Trickster God. That isn't all that surprising considering how much Gwen Stacy's life has been determined by her work with the Time Variance Agency. With the help of the TVA, Gwen was able to move to the reality of Earth-616 full-time, even if only because she didn't feel like she had any remaining ties to her native timeline.
