One of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's top creatives is officially back in action for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

As noted by industry and fan page Culture Crave on X, Academy Award-winner Michael Giacchino is officially back as composer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The upcoming Spider-Man film will mark Giacchino's latest run as composer of an MCU film since The Fantastic Four: First Steps, as well as his seventh time scoring an MCU film overall.

Since teaming up with Marvel Studios, Giacchino has also served as composer on all three previous Spider-Man films starring Tom Holland, Doctor Strange starring Benedict Cumberbatch, 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps earlier this year. In 2022, Giacchino made his MCU directorial debut with Werewolf by Night (which he also composed) starring Gael García Bernal, Laura Donnelly, and Harrient Sansom Harris, which was met with rave reviews from critics and audiences alike.

Giacchino discussed the possibility of returning to the world of Werewolf by Night in the MCU, explaining, "I think I would like to do something with the story that we created for television, but that's got its own thing going and it doesn't quite slot into what's happening currently in Jack's life in the Marvel [comics] world. So there's a little bit of navigating there."

"I would love to do another Werewolf by Night [special] more than anything," Giacchino added. "I think we're just waiting for the industry to settle into its new norm, whatever that is at this point, before we figure out what to do there."

While fans are certainly excited to hear that Giacchino is returning for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, that is hardly the only major production currently on his slate. Back in 2023, it was reported that Warner Bros. had signed Giacchino to helm a remake of the classic 1954 creature feature — Them!.

"There's always a movie in your mind that never leaves your head. For me, that's Them!. It wasn't until much later in life until I learned what it was about — the nuclear age," Giacchino said following the remake's announcement. "What I love about Them! is exactly what it's called: Them!. It's about the other, the unknown which one refuses or can't understand."

The original Them! was directed by Gotdon Douglas from a screenplay by Ted Sherdeman and Russell Hughes, which itself was adapted from a story by George Worthing Yates. Released the same year as Godzilla, the film was one of the very first of the nuclear monster subgenre that emerged from the post-World War II era.

Them! starred James Whitmore as New Mexico State Police Sergeant Ben Peterson, who quickly becomes embroiled in the fight for survival against a swarm of giant, irradiated ants who begin tearing their way through the desert. Upon its release, Them! was met with largely positive if somewhat divisive reviews, and continues to hold its place as a cult classic to this very day. As of the time of writing, Them! holds a near-perfect 93% "Certified Fresh" rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
