Spider-Man's Newest Villain Just Gave New York City a Taste of His Power

The following contains spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #7, on sale July 2 from Marvel Comics.

Spider-Man's next biggest problem just showed New York City what he is capable of, and it is terrifying.

Amazing Spider-Man #7 picks up right where the previous issue left off, with the titular hero and the Black Cat staring down the ominous, seemingly ancient threat that is the Hellgate. While Black Cat is understandably worried about Hellgate's arrival, the lack of any tingling of his Spider-Sense makes Spider-Man far more confident that this particular impromptu introduction won't devolve into unnecessary violence. In fact, Spider-Man is so confident that he is comfortable simply asking Hellgate to wait while he deals with the criminals he initially set out to stop, only for Hellgate to single-handedly take down every single one of them in the hopes of saving some time.

Hellgate made his comic book debut in the pages of Amazing Spider-Man #6, appearing before the titular hero and Black Cat while staking out the Hobgoblin's goons. In recent months, the Hobgoblin has been making some serious moves throughout the underworld of New York City. So much so that Lonnie Lincoln, better known as the crime lord Tombstone, personally reached out to give Spider-Man a heads-up about the situation. With that knowledge in hand, and a little reassurance from none other than Norman Osborn, Spider-Man set out to put a stop to whatever Hobgoblin has in store for the city next alongside one of his closest allies.

Peter's friendlier-than-usual relationship with Norman Osborn is just one of the many unexpected personal successes he has enjoyed over the past few months. Although Peter has faced off against plenty of threats in recent months, he has also been able to take newfound control of his personal life. On top of landing a cushy position within Rand Enterprises, Peter has managed to keep his romantic relationship with Shay Marken from falling apart at the seams, all of which has left the typically unnerved and anxious Wall-Crawler feeling more capable than ever before.

The most infamous Predator in pop culture is about to invade Earth in the next crossover series from Marvel Comics, and it will be brutal.

First seen back in 1980's Peter Parker, The Spectacular Spider-Man #43 by Roger Stern and Mike Zeck, Roderick Kingsley made his debut as a wealthy fashion designer with a history of taking a ruthless approach to his business. Although Kingsley was the victim of an attack by someone he had wronged in his first appearance, it wasn't long before he was playing the role of the villain for himself. Two years after his comic book introduction, Kingsley reinvented himself as the Hobgoblin and has since been one of the most dangerous foes Spider-Man has ever known. Recently, Kingsley teamed up with the monstrous "daughter" of Spider-Man and Deadpool known as Itsy-Bitsy to carry out yet another devastating plot, one that was ultimately quashed by Itsy-Bitsy's genetic progenitor.
