The following contains major spoilers for Amazing Spider-Man #67, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

The "Eight Deaths of Spider-Man" have just introduced a threat that is even bigger than the Juggernaut's Cyttorak.

Amazing Spider-Man #67 opens to find the heroes of the X-Men locked in a brutal bout of combat with the latest Scion of Cyttorak to emerge looking for a fight with Earth's chosen champion. Unfortunately, Peter Parker has completely given up on those duties, and as such he has broken the mystical contract that details the proceedings at hand. Worse still, doing so has unleashed an unstoppable force known as the Blight, and the Scion of Cyttorak known as Callix has become its first herald.

Marvel's "Eight Deaths of Spider-Man" has pitted the Wall-Crawler against the Eight Scions of Cyttorak for the latest in a long line of previously unseen yet regular confrontations. Normally, these villains would be met head on by Doctor Strange, who was behind the contract that has kept the Blight at bay for decades. With the mantle of Sorcerer Supreme having been passed on, however, the current bearer of that title, Doctor Doom, chose Spider-Man to defend the world from complete and total annihilation.

Throughout the course of the event so far, "The Eight Deaths of Spider-Man" has introduced six of the Scions of Cyttorak. Among them are Callix, Cyntros, Cyperion, Cyra, Cyrios, and Cradios. While all of these demonic entities have proven to be powerhouses in their own right, they haven't all taken a direct approach to combating Spider-Man. In fact, Cyra was the one who made Peter Parker completely give up on being Spider-Man by forcing him to watch on helplessly as the untimely and natural deaths of tens of thousands of people played out before his eyes, all while he was utterly powerless to stop any of it.

The greatest undersea champion the Marvel Universe has ever known has just kicked off an Olympus-sized battle he might not be able to win.

While the "Eight Deaths of Spider-Man" is shaking up the Marvel Universe of today, it is also already leaving behind an impact that is being felt far into the future. As seen in the pages of Timeslide #1 by Steve Foxe and Ivan Fiorelli, "The Eight Deaths of Spider-Man" is slated to be the inciting incident for the next great downfall of mutantkind. This was revealed to Cable and Bishop by a future version of the recently introduced mutant hero known as Bronze. Apart from "The Eight Deaths of Spider-Man," other ongoing Marvel Comics events were noted as being prominent events leading up to the next mutant tragedy, with One World Under Doom, the emergence of Marvel's New Champions, and Storm's recent cosmic transformation all having their own place on that same list.
