Paramount+ has released another glimpse of the upcoming third season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Following up on the buzz generated by its Season 2 musical episode, this new season promises to elevate the adventure even further by taking more risks. Set to feature 10 episodes, Season 3 is slated to premiere this summer.
The Strange New Worlds teaser trailer released by Paramount+ gives Trekkies an exciting preview of Season 3’s genre-bending episodes, including a murder mystery, a romantic comedy, and a documentary-style installment. Excitingly, the new trailer also includes a glimpse of a Starfleet officer who appears to be an Edosian, an alien species originally introduced by the character Arex (voiced by James Doohan) in Star Trek: The Animated Series.
The official synopsis of Season 3 of Strange New Worlds reads:
In season three, when we reconnect with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, still under the command of Captain Pike (Anson Mount), they face the conclusion of season two’s harrowing encounter with the Gorn. But new life and civilizations await, including a villain that will test our characters’ grit and resolve. An exciting twist on classic Star Trek, season three takes characters both new and beloved to new heights and dives into thrilling adventures of faith, duty, romance, comedy, and mystery with varying genres never before seen on any other Star Trek.
The Strange New Worlds trailer follows the January 2025 release of Paramount+’s much-anticipated original Star Trek: Section 31 movie starring Academy Award-winning actress Michelle Yeoh, which received lukewarm feedback from some critics, scoring just 20% and 16% on Rotten Tomatoes, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In contrast, the first two seasons of Strange New Worlds have stood out as some of the best iterations of the modern Star Trek offerings on Paramount+, alongside the critically acclaimed series Star Trek: Picard and the fan-favorite animated show Star Trek: Lower Decks.
Strange New Worlds stars Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Una Chin-Riley/Number One, Ethan Peck as Spock, Jess Bush as Christine Chapel, Christina Chong as Khan descendant La’an Noonien-Singh, Celia Rose Gooding as Nyota Uhura, Melissa Navia as the Enterprise‘s helmsperson Erica Otegas, Babs Olusanmokun as the chief medical officer Joseph M’Benga, and Martin Quinn as engineer Montgomery “Scotty” Scott. Season three also includes guest appearances from Rhys Darby, Patton Oswalt, Cillian O’Sullivan, Melanie Scrofano, who plays Pike’s girlfriend Captain Marie Batel, Carol Kane, who plays Enterprise‘s Lanthanite chief engineer Pelia, and Paul Wesley, who plays a young James T. Kirk.
CBS Studios, Secret Hideout, and Roddenberry Entertainment produce the series, with Akiva Goldsman, Alex Kurtzman, Henry Alonso Myers, Aaron Baiers, Dana Horgan, Davy Perez, Frank Siracusa, John Weber, Chris Fisher, Rod Roddenberry, and Trevor Roth serving as executive producers. Goldsman (Weed Road Pictures) and Myers (HMRX) are co-showrunners.
Paramount+ previously announced that Strange New Worlds was renewed for a fourth season. The show is currently being produced in Toronto.
