Patrik Walker is an Emmy Award–winning writer who covers all things Comics & Superheroes. His work can also be found at the Dallas Cowboys, The Sporting News, and CBS Sports, among other outlets. One of the most respected names in his field, he is also a diehard enthusiast of all things comics, anime, gaming and movies — thriving in spaces where discussions involving those or similar topics reign supreme.
There’s at least one Superman actor who is truly a fan of comic books. When James Gunn introduced Nathan Fillion as his Green Lantern (Guy Gardner) for David Corenswet’s DCU reboot, there were some who poked fun at the character design, particularly the haircut, but true fans understood.
Simply put, Fillion is a comic book purist, and that’s likely why he’s about to deepen his connection to and footing in that space.

Coming soon to a pull list near you, likely yours, is Fillion’s collaboration with Dark Horse Comics on a midwestern noir comic series titled Witness Point — a four-part series written by Fillion and screenwriter/comic author Heath Corson (From the World of Minor Threats: The Brood, Animal Kingdom).
Nathan Fillion Branching Out After Superman
Courtesy of Dark Horse ComicsThe series will be illustrated by Soo Lee, an award-winner whose talents have graced Carmilla and Kingdom of Earth, and that’s not all, so much more being packed into Witness Point as it prepares for its debut in comic book shops later this summer.
“Heath pulled me into his world with Witness Point, and I immediately knew this was a story that would lend itself to a comic series,” Fillion said of the team-up. “I’m excited to be collaborating with the incredibly talented and celebrated artist Soo Lee, whose recent work on ThunderCats: Cheetara, The Wizard of Oz, and Disney Villians: Maleficient is nothing short of extraordinary.
His praise also, of course, extended to Lee: “Working with Soo, alongside my partners at Collision33 — Michelle Chapman and Josh Levy — and the team at Dark Horse Entertainment to bring this engaging story to life has been a thrill. I love this project and can’t wait for readers to experience it.”
What Is Nathan Fillion's Witness Point About?
Image via DC StudiosThe love is clearly mutual, with Corson explaining why he feels Witness Point is something readers will love, largely due to Fillion’s ability with the pen for a story that follows Carter "Kite" Calhoon, a trauma-driven local sheriff, and his deputy marshal, Priya Khabranij, and their contentious relationship as they try to solve the murder of a dismembered U.S. Marshal in the small town of Baraboo, Wisconsin.
“Nathan is an intuitive storyteller who imbues every medium he works in with his quick wit, iconic characters, and bottomless humanity,” said Corson. “I feel like we've managed to siphon a decent amount of it into Witness Point.”
Lee agrees with Corson about what Fillion brings to the comic book table: “Witness Point isn't your typical crime story that you think it is, so I wanted it to reflect that in the art as well. The setting is unusual with unusual suspects and characters, in all sense of the word so I wanted the colors and visuals to match that.”
It’s unknown if Fillion will grace the screen for Supergirl and/or HBO Max’s Lanterns, and it’ll be wonderful if he does but, in the meantime, you can catch him in the sheets … wait … you know what I meant.
