Jason is an award-winning journalist whose writing career dates back to when he developed the ability to use a crayon. He, most notably, worked previously as a "professional fan," as he likes to call it, at CinemaBlend, for which he wrote about anything and everything under the pop culture umbrella... especially Batman. His passion for the art of cinema began even earlier, stemming from repeat viewings of The Wizard of Oz.
This initially led him to pursue a career in filmmaking -- and even work briefly in the industry as an extra in the straight-to-video family film, Alice Upside Down -- before deciding that his talents would be better served discussing and showing appreciation for the various forms of entertainment he is passionate about.

In Batman movies of the past, Gotham City has been depicted as either hyperrealistic or pure fantasy, but 2022's The Batman found a sweet spot with its chosen film location. Thankfully, director Matt Reeves and co. are returning to this same city for The Batman - Part II.

Glasgow will once again serve as the stand-in for Bruce Wayne's hometown in The Batman - Part II, which is going into production in January 2026, as confirmed by Glasgow World. The sequel will use the Scottish city, as well as Liverpool, England, for exterior shots, while filming primarily at the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Leavesden, England.

The article from Glasgow World includes a quote from Matt Reeves, who is once again returning as director and co-writer (alongside the previously uncredited scribe Mattson Tomlin), explaining why this filming location was such a special part of bringing his vision of Batman to life.

One of the things that was really important, I wanted this to feel like a Gothic American city, but one that you'd never been to. And so the way to do that was to choose beautiful Gothic architecture and so we went to Glasgow and honestly it was so beautiful, I wish we could've filmed there more. I really think it's a very special Gotham, I mean what a special place.

Robert Pattinson, who will reprise his role of Bruce Wayne in The Batman - Part II, is also quoted for his praise of Glasgow's "19th Century feel." He adds that the city's skyline made the final shots of his first DC movie "beautiful."

The design of Glasgow helped The Batman achieve a look that feels like it was plucked from the pages of DC Comics, but maintains an aura of plausibility that makes the acclaimed crime epic a one-of-a-kind superhero flick, especially visually. The Batman - Part II certainly would not be the same without this version of Gotham.

What Else Is Known About The Batman - Part II

The Batman - Part II is now in pre-production, following an extensive wait to see the script brought to completion. Reeves and Tomlin announced they had finished writing the DC movie on social media in June 2025.

In addition to Pattinson donning the cape and cowl once again, Colin Farrell's return as Oz "The Penguin" Cobb has been confirmed by the Irish actor himself, who also described his role in the sequel as "smaller," but that was not enough to quell his excitement for the film. Academy Award nominee Jeffrey Wright is also primed to reprise Batman's ally, Det. James Gordon, as well as Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth.

Meanwhile, Barry Keoghan has hinted at seeing more of his Joker in The Batman Part II, following his brief appearance at the end of the first film. However, Zoë Kravitz's Catwoman will reportedly not return in the sequel, but fans are bound to see more of her in the proposed third installment.

Very little about the plot or the villain that Pattinson's Dark Knight is set to face off against this time, following his spat with Paul Dano's deadly Riddler, has been announced. What can be confirmed, as reiterated by DC Studios co-head James Gunn multiple times, is that The Batman Part - II is considered an Elseworlds story that exists outside of the new, main DC Universe continuity.

The Batman - Part II is set to fly into theaters on Oct. 1, 2027
