The following contains major spoilers for Green Lantern #28, on sale now from DC Comics.
The entire history of the Green Lantern Corps is beginning to revolve around its most iconic member, and it might be a serious problem.
Green Lantern #28 (by Jeremy Adams, V Ken Marion, Romulo Fajardo Jr., and Dave Sharpe) finds Guy Gardner and Sojourner Mullein digging through the wreckage of the Castle of the Desolate Stone in desperate search for whatever they can find of the Book of Oa. Fortunately, the Green Lantern Corps' sacred tome is still perfectly intact. Better yet, the villainous Starbreaker was able to translate passages that Guy previously could not, although the fact that Hal Jordan's name is now emblazoned across an entire page where it shouldn't be is of infinitely greater concern.

First seen back in 1985 in the pages of Green Lantern #188 by Steve Englehart and Joe Staton, the Book of Oa is an ancient tome that contains the history of both the Guardians of the Universe and the Green Lantern Corps itself. Over the ages, individual members of the Green Lantern Corps have been selected to serve as the Keeper of the Book of Oa, largely as part of an effort to keep its most dangerous passages a secret. Among these are the prophecies surrounding the Blackest Night, as well as the ultimate destruction of the Green Lantern Corps at the hands of their most fearsome enemies.
Currently, every single one of the primary Lantern Corps across the DC Universe is facing the threat posed by the seemingly unstoppable energy vampire known as Luciphage. Introduced as Starbreaker in 1972 in the pages of Justice League of America #96 in Mike Friedrich and Dick Dillin's opening story, "Meet the Cosmic Vampire!," Luciphage is a member of the Sun-Eaters, or Starbreakers as they are known today. Originally, Luciphage faced off against Adam Strange and the likes of the Justice League, although the character has become more and more focused on the Green Lanterns and their ilk in the modern DC Universe.
While the modern Luciphage still suffered numerous defeats when facing off against the Justice League and even seemingly obliterated, his return in recent months has ushered in a whole new reign of terror. Not only has Luciphage returned, he has brought with him his entire clan of Starbreakers, each of which are capable of wreaking untold havoc single-handedly. To make matters worse, Luciphage has found several new allies who have been easily manipulated into doing his bidding, including the tragic Nathan Broome, better known as Sorrow.
