The following contains major spoilers for Infinity Watch #2, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

One of Infinity Watch's most powerful — and dangerous — members has just remade the whole world in her own image.

Infinity Watch #2 finds the eponymous team of Infinity Stone-wielding heroes caught in the middle of a tense battle against the murderous Avery Zavala, another Stone Bearer from another timeline who has come to collect those belonging to his interdimensional counterparts by any means necessary. After all her teammates are cut down, Star is the last member of Infinity Watch left standing. Fortunately, it only takes a moment of hesitation on Avery's part for Star to use her Reality Stone to put a stop to the battle at hand, although rewriting reality in its entirety might not have been the best way for her to do so.

When Ripley Ryan made her Marvel Comics debut in the pages of 2019's Captain Marvel #1, she was a timid if capable young reporter who had survived an abusive upbringing by keeping her head down and avoiding the spotlight. It was during an interview with none other than Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, when Ripley first experienced what it was like to be caught up in the kind of action that naturally follows such heroes. This drove Ripley to volunteer for an experimental procedure that transformed her into a Human-Kree Hybrid being who subsequently stole away with a portion of Captain Marvel's powers for herself.

Despite her purported efforts to become a hero in the form of Star, Ripley has consistently proven herself to be all but entirely incapable of letting go of her own ego long enough to avoid playing the role of a villain. When the Infinity Stones were imbued with individual consciousnesses of their own, the Reality Stone sought out Star as its living host, giving her the opportunity to break out of prison and continue on in her attempts to rise above her previous existence. Over the course of her career, Star has faced off against everyone from Captain Marvel to the original King in Black, Knull, all to surprising success, though not without also showing off how deeply the power of the Reality Stone has influenced her current state of mind.

Storm's latest shot at redemption comes courtesy of her place within the ranks of the latest iteration of Marvel Comics' Infinity Watch. This mantle has long been associated with groups of heroes, and villains, who have served as the wielders of individual Infinity Stones in an effort to safeguard them from those who would use their power for malicious ends. As Stone Bearers who have bonded to their respective Infinity Stones, the members of the current Infinity Watch are unique in that their powers persist beyond the veil of the Multiverse. This is precisely the same case as Avery Zavala, who comes from a reality that was rendered asunder in the hopes that the combined powers of a full team of Stone Bearers might remake his universe from the ground up.
