The following contains major spoilers for Weapon X-Men #1, on sale now from Marvel Comics.

Marvel's new Weapon X-Men are already being betrayed for one of the worst villains in the entire world.

After Wolverine is sent on a search for a large cache of stolen Adamantium in the pages of Weapon X-Men #1, he finds himself begrudgingly teaming up with the likes of Cable, Chamber, Thunderbird, and Deadpool for a mission that is bigger than he ever expected. Unfortunately, not every member of this impromptu team is working toward the same end. As it turns out, Deadpool only intended to stick around long enough to steal away with his true target on behalf of his latest mystery employer, and Baron Strucker has big plans for Wolverine once the mutant antihero is in his clutches.

The villainous Baron Wolfgang von Strucker made his Marvel Comics debut all the way back in 1963's Sgt. Fury #5 by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Originally a high-ranking member of the Nazi Party, Strucker used the Reich's resources to further his own goals. Eventually, Strucker managed to claim the mantle of the Supreme Hydra, effectively giving him complete and total control over Hydra itself. Over the course of his decades-long career as a villain, Strucker has been at the heart of numerous storylines, not to mention the creation of other villainous organizations such as A.I.M. and the original Secret Empire.

Although most Marvel fans know Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, as a character who exists more so on the heroic end of the antihero spectrum, that hasn't kept him from playing the role of the villain whenever the associated paycheck suited him. In his first appearance in 1990's New Mutants #98 by Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, Deadpool was introduced as an abject antagonist, having been sent to take out fellow mutant antihero Cable. Even in the pages of the currently ongoing Deadpool series, Wade has gladly taken the assassination of Miles Morales on as his latest job, further highlighting his ambiguous moral center.

Spider-Boy's personal life is no longer his, and the villain who stole it just so happens to be closer to him than any other.

While the current series marks the first time that the Weapon X-Men moniker has been lent to a team of heroes from the primary Marvel Universe, it isn't the first time the moniker has been seen in Marvel Comics. The original Weapon X-Men series from 2024, written by Christos Gage and illustrated by Yildiray Çinar, featured a team composed entirely of different versions of Wolverine hailing from their own respective corners of the Multiverse. Among these original Weapon X-Men was Jane Howlett, the only member of the team who had yet to be imbued with an Adamantium skeleton, and who quickly proved herself to be just as if not even more capable than her fellow Wolverine's in spite of that apparent disadvantage.
