Even with the 2025 summer blockbuster season underway, it’s the highly anticipated Greek mythology epic arriving on July 17, 2026, that continues to grab the headlines. Riding a huge $250 million budget and one of the most stacked casts since Avengers Endgame, wherever the production goes, it continues to grow intrigue.
At the time of writing, production is in full swing and fans who’ve been to the cinema have been treated to a little teaser trailer. Rumored to have originally featured an Anne Hathaway voiceover, the teaser offers a potential glimpse – albeit a minimalistic one – into the influence of Greek myths and the plot of the upcoming film.
Filming for the Epic Poem Adaptation Well Underway
Back in February, the cameras officially started rolling on Christopher Nolan’s new massive project. The world-hopping schedule sees various parts of the production team jump from Morocco to Greece, over to Italy, up to Iceland, back down again to Scotland, across to Ireland, and eventually in Los Angeles and London.
It’s a stacked route, and one that looks to capture the right settings for all of the myth-encased trials that Odysseus faces on his long trip home from the Trojan War. With over 1,000 extras arriving in Iceland for that two-week leg of the shoot, the volcanic nation will seemingly pose as the backdrop to what we see of the Trojan War.
In Scotland, where the production team was in June and July, the cliff-side fortress Findlater Castle was closed off to the public to seemingly feature as a key part of the film. Culbin Forest was also reportedly in use for some shooting, with it being closed off in July. Even with all of this underway, a teaser trailer is already out in the world.
Embracing the Mythical Elements of Homer’s Poem
Greek myths continue to be incredibly versatile across entertainment and provably attractive to audiences. The deities and these tales remain world-renowned, featuring in everything from blockbuster movies like Hercules, Immortals, Minotaur, Troy, and 300 all the way to the ever-expanding space of online bingo rooms.
Indeed, alongside rooms like Cash Cave, Cash Cubes, the Learner Room, and Mystic Meg Bingo, which are all quite in-theme within bingo, there’s also the Greek myth one. Age of the Gods Bingo headlines the bingo games for ancient mythology buffs, headlined by Zeus and featuring all of the famed figures of the Greek pantheon.
Zeus is an incredibly popular figure, and he plays a key role in the poem. In the teaser, it’s made clear that the greater mythical beings of The Odyssey will be in play. “Darkness. Zeus’ law smashed to pieces. A kingdom without a king since my master died.” This line in the teaser points to the mythic influence.
Naturally, the teaser being released this early is limited in what it can show. It has Tom Holland’s Telemachus talking to Jon Bernthal’s character about his father, Odysseus – played by Matt Damon. Bernthal decries that there are many conflicting stories of the king of Ithaca, and it cuts to probably Odysseus floating on some debris in the sea.
It’s only a little teaser, but given the sprawling production that’s underway and what little has been revealed, it makes sense that The Odyssey is already picking up a huge amount of hype a year before its release.
